Abstract

Unemployment has a negative impact on society. As long as the unemployment period has not ended, job seekers will need more of these savings/assets to meet their needs. This study aims[HC1] to determine the length of time an unemployed person is looking for a job and the effect of gender, age, and education level variables on how long they can get a job in Indonesia. This study uses the National Manpower Survey dataset (SAKERNAS PANEL 2017) with analysis methods survival and the proportional regression model Coxhazard. The results showed that unproductive age[HC2] and higher education level would prolong the time job seekers find work. The average length of time looking for work for the age group of teenagers (15-24 years) and adults (55 years and over) is 11.30 months, while the productive age group (25-54 years) is 10.08 months. This indicates that the company prefers to hire job seekers with productive ages (25-54 years) compared to teenagers and adults. As for the level of education, the average length of time looking for a job for someone with elementary school education is around 8.32 months, junior high school graduation/equivalent is 9.85 months, high school graduation/equivalent is 11.21 months, and college graduates are 11.55 months. In an inferential analysis using Cox Proportional Hazard regression analysis, the variables that have a significant effect on a person's job search are age and education level variables. The hazard ratio value for the age variable is 1.4254. This means that for each age value, the opportunities for job seekers who have a productive age (25-54 years) are faster in unemployment than those of teenagers (15-24 years) or adults (55 years and over). While the use values hazard ratio for the variable educational level of 0.9385. This means that job seekers with higher education have the opportunity to be unemployed for a longer duration than job seekers with low education.
