Abstract

The poverty rate of Jambi Province is 7.92 percent while unemployment is 3.86 percent in 2018. The target of reducing poverty and unemployment is usually used as an indicator in measuring socio-economic development globally. But these targets only provide a limited picture of the quality of growth and development and we need to have a more detailed understanding of the quality of work and development of livelihoods, especially for those who have managed to get out of deprivation, to ensure that policies are effective in increasing growth fair and sustainable. This study will discuss specifically the description of graduates of SMA/SMK in Jambi Province. This study uses Susenas data (National Socio-Economic Survey) and Sakernas data (National Labor Force Survey) of Jambi Province in 2018 with a descriptive-exploratory analysis method. This study provides results that the number of job seekers who have SMA/SMK education background in the labor market is more male than female, while labor market participation rates are still dominated by women. In addition, the proportion of young graduates of SMA/SMK who do not work, do not go to school anymore and also do not attend training (NEET) in Jambi Province is still relatively high for ages 15-29 years which is 14.46 percent. The unemployment rate for SMA/SMK graduates declined compared to 2017, indicating an increase in demand for graduates of SMA/SMK in Jambi Province. But if we look at the wages of women graduating from SMA/SMK it is still below the regional minimum wage set by the government. Jambi Province continues to strive to reduce unemployment, but there are still many challenges in realizing fair and sustainable growth. It becomes a challenge to continue to realize quality work and livelihoods and sustainability.
