Abstract

The low quality of education will result in the low quality of human resources, and can be overcome with government education assistance. Education quality enhancement can be done using a statistical mathematic method is cluster analysis. The cluster analysis used is the Average Linkage using Euclidean distance. The activity aims to achieve the results of grouping provinces in Indonesia based on the quality indicator of education. Based on the clustering algorithm the results was obtained that 34 provinces in Indonesia were grouped into 5 clusters: Cluster 1 consisting of Aceh, Sumatera Utara, Sumatera Barat, Riau, Jambi, Sumatera Selatan, Bengkulu, Lampung, Kep. Bangka Belitung, Kep. Riau, Banten, Bali, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Tengah, Kalimantan Selatan, Kalimantan Timur, Kalimantan Utara, Sulawesi Utara, Sulawesi Tengah, Sulawesi Selatan, Sulawesi Tenggara, Gorontalo, Sulawesi Barat, Maluku, Maluku Utara dan Papua Barat. Cluster 2 is made up of the DKI Jakarta. Cluster 3 consists of Jawa Barat, Jawa Tengah dan Jawa Timur. Cluster 4 is made up of Yogyakarta. Cluster 5 is made up of Papua. Based on the comparison of the average values, the five clusters are sorted according to their level of classification as cluster 4 as a very well categorized, cluster 2 is better categorized, cluster 3 is good categorized, cluster 1 is quite good and cluster 5 is less well categorized.
