Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of zakat in Singapore managed by the Singapore Islamic Religious Council (Majelis Ugama Islam Singapore/MUIS). Singapore with Muslim minority population, is able to develop zakat and have a positive impact to other countries, including Indonesia. This research aims to understand and determine the collection and distribution of zakat in state authority institutions in Indonesia and Singapore. The research method used is qualitative using focused interviews with a comparative approach. Beside interviews, the authors also carried out data by observation and documentation at the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of the Republic of Indonesia and at the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) in Singapore. The result of the research show that the collection of zakat funds at the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS) and the Singapore Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) is already optimal. One of the strategies used is to develop administration and transparency so that people entrust their zakat to be managed by state authority institutions. The distribution of zakat funds to the BAZNAS is quite optimal but not as optimal as that of MUIS. This is because the distribution is managed by several parties, while the distribution of zakat funds at Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) is distributed directly to those entitled to receive it, thereby avoiding operational costs which cause zakat funds to be deducted.

Abstract

This study aims to examine digital payment services in zakat collection and how effective these services are in improving zakat collection at BAZNAS DKI Jakarta. This research is a type of qualitative research that uses Focused Interviews method as the main tool for data collection. The results of the research can be concluded that: first, BAZNAS DKI Jakarta has successfully implemented digital payment services since the end of 2019 as a response to the increasingly instant and fast needs of philanthropy. This service includes various platforms such as crowdfunding, e-commerce, marketplaces, and digital payment methods such as bank transfers, virtual accounts, QRIS, e-wallets (Gopay, OVO, ShopeePay, LinkAja, Jenius), and payment gateways (DOKU). Second, the effectiveness of this service can be seen from the significant increase in the amount of zakat collected each year, from 75.9 billion rupiah in 2019 to 247.9 billion rupiah in 2023. Success indicators include the number of transactions, public trust, breadth of payment channels, and high conversion rate.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out about the management of productive zakat in BAZNAS Tangerang Regency and the effectiveness of productive zakat management in alleviating poverty in Tangerang Regency. This research uses qualitative methods with focused interviews to collect data from various related sources. This research is compared with several previous studies that also discuss productive zakat, one of which is a journal written by Yoghi Citra Pratama by discussing the role of zakat in poverty alleviation: a case study of productive zakat programs at the national zakat amil agency and found that productive zakat has not been fully effective and significant to alleviate poverty. The research results can be concluded that first, productive zakat has been effective in helping to implement poverty alleviation programs and is managed systematically. Second, the program is highly dependent on increased community participation and continuous evaluation. With the right support, this program has the potential to continue to grow and provide wider benefits for the poor in Tangerang Regency.

Abstract

Data shows that productive zakat has not yet reached an optimal level, and its impact has not been clearly measured, considering the many mustahik who have limited access to business capital, forcing many MSME actors to seek loans from loan sharks. This study employs a qualitative method consisting of natural observation and focused interviews. The primary data sources for this research include interviews with the Head of the BAZNAS Microfinance program and two mustahik. Secondary data sources were obtained from various journal literature, reports, and supporting documents. The results of this study indicate: First, the operational mechanism and financing procedures of the BAZNAS Microfinance program in Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency implement a qarḍul ḥasan scheme. Fund distribution is carried out selectively through several stages. With a revolving loan system, this program aims to ensure that the benefits of zakat can be felt by more mustahik. Second, the BAZNAS Microfinance program in Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency has achieved optimal impact in improving the welfare of mustahik. However, despite the program's optimal impact, there are still opportunities to strengthen sustainability and long-term impact through business mentoring and training, aiming for a more significant effect on the mustahik.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of productive zakat (zakat) in improving the welfare of mustahik (recipients) at the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) in Bekasi Regency. The method used was a qualitative approach with an empirical approach through interviews and documentation studies, followed by analysis through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the Business Capital Assistance program has been running in accordance with Law No. 23 of 2011, but its implementation has not been optimal. The program has not fully improved the welfare of mustahik in economic, educational, social, religious, and health aspects. Strengthened monitoring and mentoring are needed to maximize the benefits of productive zakat, ensure sustainability, and encourage mustahik independence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the waqf asset management strategy at the Al-Intiba Islamic Boarding School Foundation in Ciputat, South Tangerang City. The main focus of this research is to analyze the supporting factors in its management. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results show that the pesantren's waqf assets are used for multiple functions, not only for internal educational purposes but also for broader community empowerment. The main supporting factors are the sincerity of the waqifs and the dedication of the management, while the obstacles are the lack of professional human resources and the absence of a formal nazir institution. This research recommends the importance of building a professional nazir to ensure the sustainability of waqf in the future.
