Abstract

Computer networks are vital elements in supporting various digital activities, both for individual and organizational needs. In this case, peer-to-peer and client-server network topologies have important roles with different characteristics and applications. However, a deep understanding of the implementation, performance, and advantages and disadvantages of both topologies is still a challenge, especially for beginners or students in the field of networking. This study aims to analyst and compare the implementation of peer-to-peer and client-server networks using Cisco Packet Tracer, a popular network simulation software. The research method used is a literature review with the main source in the form of relevant scientific journals in the last 5-10 years. Literature searches were conducted using keywords such as "peer-to peer network implementation," "client-server network analysis," and "Cisco Packet Tracer simulation". The implementation process involves setting up virtual network devices, configuring IP addresses, and testing connectivity with the ping command and simulating services such as HTTP or FTP. The results of the study show that peer-to-peer networks are simpler and suitable for small needs, such as file sharing, while client-server networks are more complex but support centralized services with better security. Simulation using Cisco Packet Tracer has proven effective in providing practical understanding of the concepts and applications of both network topologies. This study is expected to be a guide for students and professionals in studying and implementing computer networks efficiently.
