Abstract

Along with the development of technology, especially computers and the internet, the need for fast and efficient data transfer increases. One of the biggest challenges is optimizing network traffic to avoid congestion and communication disruptions. Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a solution that improves network management efficiency by isolating broadcast domains. The purpose of this study is to develop and configure a VLAN network using Cisco Packet Tracer to optimize data traffic. The research methodology includes the stages of network topology design, network device configuration, VLAN implementation, and network performance simulation and analysis. Cisco Packet Tracer is used as a simulation tool to visualize and test the validity of the network configuration. In this study, we created a network scenario involving several departments that require different network segmentation to reduce irrelevant broadcast traffic. Research has shown that implementing VLANs can significantly reduce unnecessary data traffic and improve network efficiency. In addition, the implemented VLAN configuration ensures that communication between departments remains secure and controlled through the use of trunking techniques and access control list (acl) settings. Simulations show that optimizing traffic using VLANs can be an effective solution to improve the performance of small to medium-scale networks. Therefore, this research provides practical contributions for network administrators to improve the performance and efficiency of computer networks using VLAN technology.
