Abstract

Stunting remains a prevalent issue, with long-term consequences including impaired cognitive and motor development, learning difficulties, increased risk of chronic diseases, and a reduced overall quality of life. Early marriage increases the risk of stunting in children as young mothers often lack the knowledge and resources to meet the nutritional needs of the fetus and provide optimal care for their infants. This study aimed to determine the association between early marriage and stunting in children aged 24-60 months in Mamuju Regency. This retrospective analytical study analyzed secondary data from 400 randomly selected respondents. The results showed a significant association between early marriage and stunting in children aged 24-60 months in Mamuju Regency, with a p-value of 0.000. Furthermore, of the 77 mothers with a history of early marriage, 38 had children classified as severely stunted or stunted. It can be concluded that there is a strong association between early marriage and stunting, and the earlier a girl marries, the higher the likelihood of her child experiencing stunting. Stunting prevention can begin by raising awareness among the community, especially adolescent girls, about the negative impacts of early marriage on maternal and child health.
