Abstract

This study examines the first gubernatorial election in North Kalimantan Province, the result of regional expansion, in the context of the 2015 Simultaneous Regional Elections. The research focuses on the political, social, and administrative dynamics during the preparation and implementation of the election. The aim is to analyze the challenges and opportunities in organizing elections in new regions, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of simultaneous regional elections in the area. Using a normative legal research method with a regulatory and case-based approach, the results indicate unique challenges related to election infrastructure, public awareness, and inter-institutional coordination. However, this process also presents opportunities to build a more participatory democratic system. In conclusion, the success of the governor election in the newly established region requires special attention to local geographical, demographic, and socio-cultural conditions.
