This research begins with the issue of the narrowing of the theological meaning of the concept of "light" in John 1:5, which in many modern Christian traditions is reduced to a mere ethical metaphor or symbol of well-being, so that the ontological, cosmic, and divine dimensions are neglected. The purpose of this research is to build a corrective hermeneutic framework that restores the meaning of light as an active and transformative divine reality, while placing it as the basis for the development of the curriculum and teaching of Christian Religious Education in the church. The method used is qualitative text analysis with a socio-rhetorical critical approach of Robbins' five textures (internal, intertextual, socio-cultural, ideological, and sacred), combined with canonical reading and evaluation of interpretive biases across traditions. The results of the analysis show that the use of the verb phain?i in the present tense and the narrative structure of the Gospel of John emphasize "light" as a divine reality that is alive, dynamic, and continuously working in creation. This research concludes that John 1:5 represents the presence of God that demands a transformative response from individuals and communities, while also correcting interpretive biases that narrow the meaning. This finding opens up opportunities for the reformulation of church curricula that emphasize the light of Christ as the basis of spirituality and the practice of liberating faith. Keywords: socio-rhetorical studies; Christian religious education; Jesus is the Light; John 1:5 Abstrak Penelitian ini berangkat dari persoalan penyempitan makna teologis atas konsep “terang” dalam Yohanes 1:5, yang dalam banyak tradisi Kristen modern direduksi menjadi sekadar metafora etis atau simbol kesejahteraan, sehingga dimensi ontologis, kosmis, dan ilahi terabaikan.
