Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the leading causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Management can be carried out both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. Papaya (Carica papaya L.) and red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) contain potassium, papain enzyme, flavonoids, and vitamin C, which play a role in vasodilation and are believed to help lower blood pressure. This study aimed to determine the effect of papaya and dragon fruit juice consumption on reducing hypertension in pregnant women. Method : This research employed a one-group pretest-posttest design with a total sample of 30 pregnant women diagnosed with hypertension at Gambir Baru Health Center. The intervention was given in the form of papaya and dragon fruit juice according to SOP for 14 days. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using the dependent t-test. The results : showed that before the intervention, most respondents experienced mild hypertension (90%) and severe hypertension (10%). After the intervention, the majority were in the normal category (90%) and mild (10%). Statistical analysis revealed a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of papaya and dragon fruit juice consumption on reducing hypertension in pregnant women. The conclusion : In conclusion, papaya and dragon fruit juice are effective in lowering blood pressure among pregnant women with hypertension. It is recommended as a non-pharmacological alternative therapy to support maternal health during pregnancy.
