Abstract

The development of this PCAP-based scientific literacy assessment instrument aims to comprehensively measure students' scientific literacy skills, particularly in optics and light. This study employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Expert validation was conducted to assess the instrument's quality in terms of content, construction, language, and writing. The quality test includes validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminating power. The instrument was trial-tested with 120 students recruited from three Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah). The expert validation results indicate that the instrument has good quality, with average scores of 3.84 (instruction aspect), 3.60 (item construction), and 3.23 (language aspect). The validity test confirms that all items are valid (r-value > r-table 0.361; p-value 0.000 < 0.05). The instrument's reliability is very high (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.936). The difficulty level analysis shows that most items are moderate, while the discriminating power analysis proves the instrument effectively differentiates between high- and low-ability students. These findings confirm that the developed PCAP-based assessment instrument is of good quality and suitable for use in science learning. The assessment results can guide teachers in designing targeted learning strategies to foster students' scientific literacy.
