Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the inquiry learning model assisted by wordwall media on students’ scientific literacy in biotechnology material at Grade IX SMP Negeri 37 Medan. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of two classes selected through purposive sampling, with one class as the experimental group and the other as the control group. A multiple-choice test comprising 15 items was used to measure students’ scientific literacy. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ scientific literacy after the implementation of the inquiry model with wordwall. The experimental group’s posttest scores were higher than those of the control group. The t-test indicated a significance value of 0.000, confirming a significant difference between the two groups. The N-gain analysis showed a medium improvement in the experimental group (0.53) and a low improvement in the control group (0.28). In conclusion, the inquiry learning model assisted by Wordwall effectively enhanced students’ scientific literacy by fostering active participation and providing interactive-visual support to strengthen conceptual understanding.
