Abstract

Identification of needs is important for planning appropriate learning, as it influences students' in-depth understanding of the material. This study aims to identify the needs of integrated STEAM learning on mangrove ecosystem material in coastal schools in Serang City. Mangrove ecosystems are characteristic of coastal areas and provide significant benefits for the global climate balance. Students in coastal areas should have a deep understanding of mangrove ecosystems, as they are located near their homes and are essential to sustainable conservation efforts. The mixed method is a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative results were obtained from questionnaires given to students, while qualitative results were obtained through in-depth interviews with teachers. The instrument consisted of 21 questions tailored to indicators for needs identification. The results of the analysis showed that students had a low percentage of understanding related to mangrove ecosystems, struggled to receive material in class, and were less interested in teacher delivery. They required more engaging learning with practice and the integration of art and technology. The conclusion is that STEAM-integrated learning on mangrove ecosystem material is needed to address several identified needs of students in coastal schools in Serang City.
