Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between democratic leadership and job satisfaction levels among members of the Student Association (HMP) at a university in Surabaya. He core of this research is to examine how an open leadership model can influence member motivation, particularly in the context of a high organizational workload. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with the Chairperson and members of the organization. The results indicate that implementing a democratic leadership style, demonstrated by eliminating seniority barriers, opening opportunities for discussion in important decision-making, and empathetic communication patterns, can significantly increase members' sense of appreciation and commitment. Although members face challenges such as high workloads and demanding time management, the emotional support and motivation provided by leaders can transform feelings of fatigue into a spirit of contribution. These findings confirm that job satisfaction in student organizations is influenced not only by the workload but also by the extent to which members feel involved in organizational processes. The recommendation from this study is that student organization leaders prioritize a human-centered approach and two-way communication to maintain stable team performance and the psychological well-being of their members.
