Abstract

Abstract The global ecological crisis, characterized by ecosystem degradation, climate change, and the overexploitation of natural resources, is not only a technical and scientific issue but also reflects a human moral and spiritual crisis. In the Islamic perspective, environmental destruction is understood as a manifestation of fasad fil-ardh (corruption on earth) rooted in humanity's failure to fulfill its mandate as khalifah (stewards). This article aims to analyze the strategic role of Islamic education in building students' ecological awareness and ethics through the integration of theological values into educational practices. This study utilizes a library research approach with a descriptive qualitative design, analyzing various primary sources (the Qur'an, hadith) and secondary sources (scientific journals, books, religious fatwas) using content analysis techniques. The results show that ecotheology-based Islamic education, grounded in the four ontological pillars of tawhid (unity of creation), khalifah (stewardship of the earth), amanah (moral responsibility), and mizan (cosmic balance), has transformative potential to internalize ecological awareness as an act of worship. However, its implementation faces challenges such as educators' limited understanding, a lack of contextual teaching materials, and a predominantly normative learning culture. The article concludes that the reconstruction of an ecology-based Islamic Religious Education curriculum, the capacity building of educators, and the development of contextual and participatory learning methods are strategic steps to realize the transformation from faith into concrete action in environmental conservation
