Abstract

The metabolic condition known as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is typified by persistent hyperglycemia linked to insulin resistance and compromised pancreatic β-cell activity. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) may be linked to changes in lipid metabolism and represents the average glycemic control over the previous two to three months. This study aimed to determine the relationship between HbA1c levels and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels among patients with T2DM at Lubuk Buaya Community Health Center, Padang City. 38 T2DM patients who were chosen by accidental sampling participated in an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to evaluate HbA1c levels, and the CHOD-PAP method was used to measure HDL and LDL levels. Pearson's correlation test was used to evaluate the data. The average levels of HDL, LDL, and HbA1c were 59.71 ± 13.388 mg/dL, 141.95 ± 21.443 mg/dL, and 7.555 ± 1.114%, respectively. HbA1c and HDL levels did not significantly correlate (p = 0.387; r = −0.144). Similarly, HbA1c and LDL levels did not significantly correlate (p ≈ 0.186; r = 0.219). These findings indicate that HbA1c levels were not significantly correlated with either HDL or LDL levels among patients with T2DM in this study. Further studies involving larger and more representative populations are warranted to obtain findings with greater external validity.
