Methods: This study was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional study design conducted in November 2014 with 94 respondents suffering from hypertension and not suffering from hypertension. To test the significance of the relationship between these two variables, a contingency coefficient correlation test is used. While respondents who did not suffer from hypertension found 8 respondents (17%) experienced stress and 39 respondents (83%) did not experience stress. The finding is a very significant correlation between stress and levels of hypetension (r= 0.473, p<0.001). Conclusion: The study is that there is a significant relationship between stress and hypertension in outpatients at Loano Health Center in Purworejo Regency, Central Java Province.
