Abstract

Improving school quality is essential for educational institutions to maintain their existence and competitiveness in a dynamic environment. This study aims to analyze the internal and external environmental factors of MTs Muhammadiyah 08 Pacitan to formulate strategic directions for quality improvement. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through documentation and in-depth interviews with purposively selected stakeholders, including the principal, teachers, staff, and school committee. The data were analyzed using the SWOT framework, specifically utilizing Internal and External Factor Analysis Summaries (IFAS and EFAS). The results revealed significant internal strengths, such as capable leadership and affordable tuition, alongside critical weaknesses like uneven teacher qualifications and unequal facilities. Externally, the school faces opportunities from increasing parental awareness and digital media, contrasted with threats from a peripheral location and nearby competitors. Quantitative analysis positioned the school in Quadrant I (SO - Aggressive) with coordinates (0.43, 0.12). Consequently, the study recommends an aggressive strategy focusing on aligning teacher qualifications with their assigned subjects and equalizing learning facilities to leverage internal strengths and maximize external opportunities for sustainable institutional excellence.
