Abstract

This study aims to understand how pre-service mathematics teachers conduct prospective analyses comprehensively. A qualitative research method with a case study design was used. The participant was Mrs N, a pre-service mathematics teacher who conducted research using DDR methodology in a grade 9 junior high school in Sindang, Majalengka, involving 48 students. Data were collected by analyzing empirical evidence from Mrs. N's prospective analysis process by uncovering the various stages of a prospective analysis. An iterative approach was used to analyze the data by refining the research questions through discussions and regular meetings with Mrs. N. The process ensured adaptability to new insights and understandings from the empirical data. Our findings reveal that the teacher draws upon fundamental philosophical principles from didactical design research, including hermeneutics, phenomenology, and ethnomethodology. By embracing these approaches, the teacher gains valuable insights into conducting research within an interpretive paradigm, allowing for a deeper exploration of the meaning of concepts, the purpose of learning, and the cultural influences that shape the educational process. Additionally, our study sheds light on the emergence of transpositional didactics theory as the prospective teacher delves into understanding the meaning of the geometrics transformation concept.

Abstract

This article discusses the ethnomathematics study of the Kampung Naga community in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. Ethnomathematics can investigate the application of mathematical notions in these cultural activities. The study explored the forms of ethnomathematics in their ideas and activities in living their daily lives. This study uses an ethnomethodological approach with a realistic ethnographic design to show facts and provide broader meaning. Data were collected from five respondents through in-depth interviews. The study results show that the Kampung Naga community uses the modulo concept to determine the criteria for days that can be used to start various activities, such as building or repairing houses, working, farming, and other social activities. This exploration proves that mathematical concepts are integrated into cultural values in everyday life.

Abstract

Mathematics cannot be separated from everyday life. The use of mathematical concepts in cultural activities can be studied through the ethnomathematics program. However, ethnomathematics research may not be able to provide noticeable results, especially in constructing mathematical modelling for pedagogical purposes. Ethnomodelling later became one of the concepts introduced as an approach in ethnomathematics research. Based on the cultural aspect, the ability to predict a good day in farming is included in the holistic concept of culture because it belongs to the knowledge system and belief system (religion) in the universal element of culture. The research was conducted using an ethnomethodological approach and a realist ethnographic design. Based on this, this research was conducted to describe the ability of the Cigugur indigenous people in Kuningan Regency to predict what days are considered good to start farming activities. Data were collected by using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes. Data analysis techniques are carried out in stages through content analysis, triangulation, and pattern search. Based on the study of ethnomathematics, research that is able to describe the mathematical ideas and practices of the indigenous Cigugur community can be classified into several fundamental mathematical dimensions including counting, finding, measuring, designing, and explaining. The use of the ethnomodelling approach in research can describe several mathematical concepts used by the concepts of numbers, sets, relations, congruence, modulo, and mathematical modelling.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Two Stay Two Stray (TS-TS) learning model combined with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in improving students’ mathematical understanding. The research was conducted at SMPN 1 Sindangagung with eighth-grade students as subjects during the 2023/2024 academic year. Class VIII C was assigned as the experimental group and Class VIII D as the control group was selected using purposive sampling. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group format. The instruments used included an essay test to measure mathematical understanding and teacher interview guidelines during the pre-research phase. Data analysis was carried out using normality and homogeneity tests, N-Gain calculations, and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results indicate a statistically significant difference in improvement between the two classes. Practically, the implementation of the TS-TS model based on RME increased student engagement and conceptual understanding, making it a viable alternative for designing active, collaborative, and meaningful mathematics learning.

Abstract

Mathematics is a learning that requires students to keep thinking so that it can improve students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of a cooperative learning model assisted by interactive media on students' critical thinking skills at SMK Negeri 1 Kuningan, using samples of X Grafika 1 and X Grafika 2 classes. This research is an experimental research using nonquivalent control group design. Before proving the hypothesis to determine the difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between the experimental class and the control class, the normality and homogeneity test of the N-gain value of each class was carried out first. The normality test used is Shapiro wilk and results in Whitung < Wtabel so that the data is not normally distributed, because the prerequisite test is not met, the hypothesis test uses the Mann Whitney U nonparametric test. The results of this study show Zhitung> Ztabel then H0 is accepted which means there is a difference in students' critical thinking skills between the experimental class and the control class. This indicates that the use of cooperative learning models assisted by interactive game media is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, besides the results of student response questionnaires which are quite positive also show that cooperative learning models assisted by interactive learning media are able to increase student involvement in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Padlet interactive multimedia in improving students' mathematical problem-solving skills. This study uses quantitative research, with a Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The use of experimental research aims to determine the effect of certain variables on other variables. This design uses two experimental classes. This research will be conducted at SMK Karya Nasional Kuningan with the research subjects being 10th grade students of SMK Karya Nasional Kuningan in the 2024/2025 academic year. The data collection technique used in this study is a test. The research instrument used is in the form of essay questions. In this study, the test used is the Mann Whitney U test. The results of the study show that Padlet interactive multimedia has a very high level of validity and practicality. In addition, data analysis shows a significant difference in students' mathematical problem-solving abilities between the experimental class and the control class. Thus, Padlet interactive multimedia can be used as an alternative interactive learning multimedia in mathematics learning.
