Abstract

Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important outcome after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), because successful revascularization does not always result in optimal recovery of physical, psychological, social, and daily functioning. This literature review aimed to synthesize factors influencing quality of life among patients after PCI based on recent empirical evidence. A focused literature search was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and relevant journal websites, prioritizing publications from 2023–2026 and including one highly relevant foundational study from 2022. Studies were selected according to their relevance to post-PCI populations, quality-of-life outcomes, and predictors or associated factors of HRQoL. The synthesis indicates that post-PCI quality of life is multidimensional and is influenced by clinical, demographic, psychological, behavioral, social, and rehabilitation-related factors. The most consistently reported factors include age, sex, comorbidities, functional status, angina, fatigue, anxiety, depression, social support, self-care, smoking, and participation in cardiac rehabilitation. Recent evidence also highlights the roles of optimism, family support, and home-based or digital rehabilitation. Therefore, post-PCI assessment should adopt a biopsychosocial approach combined with integrated nursing interventions to support sustained improvement in quality of life.
