Abstract

Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the horticultural crops with high economic value and is widely consumed as a source of vitamins, minerals, and plant-based protein. Bean production in Riau Province has fluctuated over the years, indicating the need for efforts to improve productivity through the application of organic fertilizers. One potential alternative is banana peel liquid organic fertilizer (POC), which contains essential macronutrients and organic matter that support plant growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of banana peel liquid organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of bean plants and to identify the optimum concentration of LOF. The research was conducted in Rambah Hilir District, Rokan Hulu Regency, from March to June 2026. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor consisting of four treatments: P0 (without LOF), P1 (300 mL L⁻¹ of water), P2 (350 mL L⁻¹ of water), and P3 (400 mL L⁻¹ of water), with three replications, resulting in 12 experimental units. The results showed that the banana peel liquid organic fertilizer contained 0.11% total nitrogen (N), 0.13% P₂O₅, 0.20% K₂O, 2.72% organic carbon, a C/N ratio of 24.72, and a pH of 5.57. The application of banana peel LOF significantly affected vine length and the number of pods per plant but had no significant effect on flowering time. The best treatment was P3 (400 mL L⁻¹ of water), which produced a vine length of 99.50 cm and 32.33 pods per plant.
