Abstract

This study examines the producer’s strategy in managing the on-location live broadcast of Damai Indonesiaku as a flagship religious program on TVOne. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach within a constructivist paradigm and used a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, with informants selected purposively based on their direct involvement in program management, including the program producer, executive producer, and field producer. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification, while source triangulation was applied to maintain data credibility. The findings show that the producer’s strategy operates through three interrelated stages: pre-production planning, real-time production control, and post-broadcast evaluation. Pre-production includes theme selection, speaker selection, location assessment, rundown preparation, technical arrangements, and coordination among production personnel. During live transmission, the producer coordinates the production team and Master Control Room, adjusts the rundown in response to technical and non-technical conditions, manages program duration, and exercises gatekeeping over religious content, visual presentation, and audience interaction. Post-broadcast evaluation covers themes, speakers, technical performance, segment effectiveness, audience responses, rating, and share, and the results are used to refine subsequent production decisions. The study concludes that the producer functions not only as a managerial coordinator but also as an adaptive gatekeeper whose decisions connect planning, real-time control, editorial supervision, and evaluation within a continuous production cycle. The findings contribute to television production studies by showing that effective management of live religious broadcasting depends on structured planning, controlled flexibility, continuous coordination, editorial control, and systematic evaluation.
