Abstract

General Background Halal food assurance is a fundamental requirement in Muslim-majority regions, where educational institution canteens play a pivotal role in promoting food safety, hygiene, and ethical consumption among students. Specific Background The canteen at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 (SMAMDA) Sidoarjo has implemented the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) in accordance with Indonesian regulatory frameworks to secure official halal certification. Knowledge Gap However, operational evaluations regarding systemic compliance, documentation consistency, and practical implementation within school canteens remain limited. Aims This study analyzes the implementation of SJPH at SMAMDA Sidoarjo canteen and evaluates its alignment with national halal assurance standards. Results Findings reveal that SJPH implementation is structured effectively, featuring a clear halal policy, an active halal management team, verified Halal Material Lists, pork-free production facilities, and strict adherence to Islamic sanitation standards. Novelty This work offers an empirical evaluation model of SJPH application specifically tailored to secondary education food service environments. Implications Systematic halal assurance in school canteens strengthens consumer trust and provides valuable operational insights for school food service management. KEY FINDINGS HIGHLIGHTS Structured management commitment and halal policies are actively operating within the school canteen. Production processes strictly maintain pork-free facilities, segregated equipment, and Islamic sanitation routines. Ongoing improvements are required in documentation consistency, material monitoring, and audit review tracking.
