Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of Qur’anic learning as a medium for Arabic vocabulary acquisition among students of Sanggar Bimbingan Al-Amin, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, particularly children of Indonesian migrant workers residing in Malaysia. This study is based on the premise that Arabic vocabulary constitutes an essential element of the Qur’an, as the Qur’an is revealed in the Arabic language. Therefore, the study investigates whether the process of learning the Qur’an can serve as an effective medium for acquiring Arabic vocabulary. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation of the learning activities conducted at Sanggar Bimbingan Al-Amin. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The findings indicate that Qur’anic learning serves as one of the media for Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) acquisition among the children of Indonesian migrant workers studying at Sanggar Bimbingan Al-Amin, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. The study further reveals that Qur’anic learning facilitates Arabic vocabulary acquisition through the introduction of vocabulary related to the Qur’anic verses that students have read and studied. In the learning process, teachers play several important roles, including serving as language models, meaning facilitators, vocabulary reinforcers, and motivators who encourage students to learn actively. The vocabulary acquisition process at Sanggar Bimbingan Al-Amin involves several instructional strategies, such as introducing new vocabulary along with example sentences, providing repeated exposure to Arabic words, offering simple explanations of meanings, reinforcing vocabulary through repetition, and encouraging students to practice the newly acquired vocabulary individually.
