Abstract

Low birth weight is one of the causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality and may be influenced by pregnant women's knowledge and behavior in meeting nutritional needs during pregnancy. This study aimed to analyze the effect of health education using video and booklet media on knowledge and low birth weight prevention behavior among pregnant women at Karanganom Public Health Center, Klaten. This quasi-experimental study used a two-group pretest-posttest design involving 98 pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, with 49 participants in each group. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Mann–Whitney U Test, and Multivariate Analysis of Covariance. Both video and booklet education significantly improved knowledge and low birth weight prevention behavior (p<0.05). Knowledge scores increased from 13.78 to 15.92 in the video group and from 13.65 to 15.65 in the booklet group. Differences in knowledge and behavior improvement were found between groups (p=0.004 and p=0.024). However, after controlling for education, occupation, age, and gestational age, no significant simultaneous difference was found between the two media (Pillai's Trace=0.056; F=2.603; p=0.080). Both media were effective in improving knowledge and prevention behavior.
