Abstract

Abstract

Making fixed partial denture to replace the missing mandibular second molar with the involvement of the third molar as abutment is rarely done, because the location of the 3rd molar is far behind and the narrow space for operator in making the tooth preparation. In addition, the shape and size of crown and root, and position of the 3rd molar in the dental arch does not often encounter the requirement to serve as an abutment. We have made fixed partial denture for a patient who had lost his second lower molar by using the first and third molar as an abutment. The 3rd molar is tilted to mesial along to the lingual aspect more than 25º, so we decided to make an intra coronal retainer to the teeth. In line with decreasing the chewing forces, the pontic occlusal surface area, had been made narrow by 20-30%. The result showed that there was no complaint from the patient after the insertion of the dentures. In conclusion, the manufacture of fixed partial denture to replace the missing mandibular second molar with the involvement of the third molar as abutment can be done by considering carefully the principles of biomechanical and preparation.

Abstract

Tiap kelompok terdiri atas 9 lempeng resin akrilik.

Abstract

Hot polymerized acrylic resin (RAPP) denture bases have several weaknesses, so RAPP requires reinforcing materials, one of which is chitosan. Extrinsic factors cause color changes in RAPP. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of soaking time for RAPP denture base material after adding 1% chitosan nanogel in coffee solution on color stability. Laboratory experimental research, using 16 cylindrical plates, diameter 15 x 2 mm (n = 8 from each group). There are 2 groups, the water-soaked group and the coffee drink group. Color stability measurements were carried out before and after soaking for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 days. The color stability of the samples was tested using a colorimeter and color changes were analyzed using the Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Withney tests. There is an effect of soaking time for RAPP denture base material on color stability with a value of p = 0.0001. Soaking the RAPP denture base material after adding 1% chitosan nanogel in a coffee solution for color stability for 4 days is still clinically acceptable.

Abstract

Heat polymerized acrylic resin is a material that is often used as a denture base. Cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) has the ability to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. However, ideally, denture cleaning agents should not affect the color stability of heat polymerized acrylic resin. The aim of this study was to evaluated the effect of immersion duration in cinnamon extract simulating 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years of use on colour stability of heat-polymerized acrylic resin denture base. Thirty unit samples heat polymerized acrylic resin with measurment 20 x 3 mm divided into 2 groups, group A (Aquabidest) B (alkaline peroxide), and C (50% cinnamon extract). After measuring the pretest values, the samples were soaked for 5 minutes each day simulated 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years of use. Discoloration (∆E) was evaluated using a colorimeter according to CIELAB (Commision de l'ECLAIRAGE) standards. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD (Least Significant Difference) statistical tests. There is an effect of immersion duration of heat polymerized acrylic resin denture base in use for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 years in groups A and B on colour stability 0.0001 (p<0.05). The colour change in group B was greater than that in group A, the ∆E value of all samples in both groups continued to increase with the length of immersion duration. However, the colour change that occurred is still clinically acceptable.
