Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the labor force participation rate (LFPR), rice production, average years of schooling, domestic tourist travel, and local government capital expenditure on poverty levels in districts/cities in West Nusa Tenggara Province. The study used panel data from 10 districts/cities during 2020–2025 (60 observations) sourced from the Central Statistics Agency. Based on the Chow test, the Hausman test, and the Lagrange Multiplier test, the selected model was a random effects model. The results showed that all five variables simultaneously had a significant effect on poverty levels, with a coefficient of determination of 0.550. Partially, only the average years of schooling had a negative and significant effect: every one-year increase in the average years of schooling reduced the percentage of the poor by 2.86 percentage points. Rice production, domestic tourist travel, LFPR, and capital expenditure did not have a significant effect. These findings indicate that poverty reduction in West Nusa Tenggara during the study period was more determined by human capital than by the performance of the two leading regional sectors, so tourism and agricultural policies need to be designed so that their benefits reach the poorer population.
