<![CDATA[ABSTRACT The high number of poverty demands public awareness to participate in exploiting the tourism potential that is owned through the implementation of the tourist village. By participating in utilizing the potential of tourism owned is expected to improve the livelihood of the community and village development that occurred in Trunyan village. Such participation can be seen from the joining of communities within several tourism groups. Such as groups of rowing boats, tracking groups, guiding groups or tourism conscious groups. This research was conducted by using qualitative descriptive method with data collection technique in depth interview to informant. This research analyzes how people participate in tourism groups in order to exploit the tourism potentials owned by the village, and can improve village development. By using the concept of participation consisting of indicators of community participation in decision making, community participation in implementation, community participation in beneficiaries and utilization of results and public participation in evaluation. The results of this study indicate that community participation in rural development through tourist villages is still not effective because of the 4 (four) indicators are less optimal application. Such as high public enthusiasm is not accompanied by strategic plan in utilization of tourism potential, still lack of equity in the utilization of tourism potency, lack of utilization of development result and also evaluation form to Tourism Village implementation.
