Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the development strategies of the Muhammadiyah Layer Chicken Farm in Pucakwangi Village and the implementation of Islamic business ethics principles in promoting business sustainability. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Ali Rofiq, the farm manager, and supported by documentation related to business management. The data were analyzed thematically by identifying business development strategies and examining their relevance to Islamic business ethics principles. The findings indicate that the development of the farm is implemented through five main strategies: community economic empowerment, strengthening marketing networks, production efficiency and innovation, strengthening management and human resources, and capital development through the syirkah system. Business sustainability is further supported by risk management through reserve funds, synergy among Muhammadiyah’s charitable enterprises, and the capacity to adapt to crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic. From the perspective of Islamic business ethics, these practices reflect the principles of amanah (trustworthiness), ‘adl (justice), tabligh (transparency), ihsan (benevolence), and maslahah (public benefit), manifested through transparent management, profit-sharing mechanisms, social responsibility, and a commitment to collective benefit. This study demonstrates that Islamic business ethics function not merely as moral guidelines but also as a foundation for governance, resilience, and sustainability in community-based enterprises. These findings may serve as a reference for developing business units within religious organizations that integrate economic and social interests.
