Abstract

Population growth is driving an increase in consumption, while the availability of agricultural land continues to decline, thereby affecting the production of food crops, including maize. The decline in production is influenced not only by land constraints but also by farmers’ capabilities and the use of production factors in agricultural operations. This study aims to analyze farmers’ perceptions of agricultural extension services and the impact of extension services and production factors on maize production in Bangkalan Regency. The study was conducted in Tragah and Galis subdistricts from September to October 2025, involving 90 local maize farmers as respondents, using primary data collected through questionnaire-based interviews as well as secondary data from literature and relevant agencies. Data analysis employed quantitative descriptive methods and multiple linear regression. The results indicate that farmers’ level of perception regarding agricultural extension services was 54.49%, which falls into the fairly good category. The regression results identified significant effects of organic fertilizer, urea, labor, and cultivated land area on maize output. In contrast, farmers’ perceptions of extension services, NPK fertilizer, pesticides, and seeds showed no statistically significant effects. These findings indicate that increased production is more influenced by the optimization of production inputs than by perceptions of agricultural extension.
