Abstract

This community service program was conducted in Pancer Cengkrong, Karanggandu Village, Watulimo District, Trenggalek Regency, in collaboration with Pokmaswas Kejung Samudra as the partner organization. The program was motivated by the need to strengthen mangrove rehabilitation not only as an ecological activity but also as part of community capacity building and economic development that preserves environmental functions. The program aimed to improve the understanding and capacity of coastal communities in sustainable mangrove rehabilitation through a green economy approach while strengthening the role of local institutions. The implementation employed a participatory approach involving needs identification, coordination with the partner, education and discussion, field practice and action, institutional strengthening, evaluation, and follow-up planning. The results indicated that the partner’s understanding of the relationships among the ecological functions of mangroves, coastal resource sustainability, and economic opportunities that do not damage the ecosystem had improved. The program outputs included the planting of 300 mangrove seedlings in the conservation area, strengthened communication between Universitas Brawijaya and Pokmaswas Kejung Samudra, rehabilitation monitoring, institutional strengthening, and the development of environmentally based economic activities. The green economy approach adopted in this program positions mangrove rehabilitation as a long-term ecological and socioeconomic investment rather than merely a planting activity.
