Abstract

This study aims to analyze Social Studies learning based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and students’ environmental awareness, as well as to examine the contribution of Social Studies learning in supporting the development of environmental awareness. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 31 university students as respondents. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements using a five-point Likert scale and were analyzed based on mean scores, percentages, and category interpretations. The results showed that Social Studies learning based on ESD obtained a percentage of 75.54%, categorized as good, while students’ environmental awareness obtained 77.58%, also categorized as good. Overall, the two research indicators achieved an average percentage of 76.35%, which was classified as good. The findings indicate that students responded positively to the integration of environmental issues, sustainable development, and the interrelationship among social, economic, and environmental aspects in Social Studies learning. This study contributes to the development of Social Studies Education by demonstrating the importance of contextual, participatory, and sustainability-oriented learning in strengthening students’ understanding and environmental awareness.
