Abstract

Along with the times, many export and import activities began to appear. With the presence of export and import activity, if it is not limited in it’s implementation, it will result in the presence of consumerism in the community. This study aims to determine the causes of consumerism behavior present in people's lives, find out the causes of Indonesian people prefer to use products from abroad rather than domestic products, and to find out how to strengthen community character through citizenship education to prevent and ward off consumerism. The research method used is a qualitative method using sources from books, articles, journals, and websites that are relevant to the research theme. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that many Indonesian people have a consumptive nature. To prevent the emergence of this attitude, it is necessary to strengthen character with the existence of civic education courses.
