Abstract

Writing observation report texts is one of the essential competencies that tenth-grade students must master. In reality, however, the writing skills of students in class X MP 2 at SMK Negeri 10 Surabaya were still relatively low. This was shown by the low learning outcomes at the pre-cycle stage, in which most students had not achieved the Learning Objectives Achievement Criteria (KKTP). This study aimed to improve the skill of writing observation report texts through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by infographic media. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were students of class X MP 2 at SMK Negeri 10 Surabaya in the 2026/2027 academic year. Data were collected through writing skill tests, observation, and documentation. The results showed that implementing PBL assisted by infographic media improved students’ skill in writing observation report texts. The class average score increased from 60.00 at the pre-cycle stage to 76.39 in Cycle I and 84.03 in Cycle II. The percentage of mastery learning also increased from 19.44% at the pre-cycle stage to 69.44% in Cycle I and reached 94.44% in Cycle II. The improvement occurred because PBL encourages students to actively identify problems, gather information, discuss, and compile reports based on observation results, while infographic media helps students understand the material visually and systematically.
