Abstrak Keterampilan membaca merupakan keterampilan yang perlu dikuasai siswa di sekolah dasar. Melalui kegiatan membaca, siswa dapat memperoleh pengetahuan baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media kartu kata berwarna terhadap keterampilan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas I sekolah dasar. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah True Experimental Design dengan menggunakan Pretest-Posttest Control Design. Sampel sudah terdistribusi secara normal dengan Ltabel (5% = 13,1) > Lhitung = 8,167. Data yang diperoleh sudah bersifat homogen dengan Ftabel (5% = 2,00) > Fhitung = 1,032. Hasil uji-t diperoleh ttabel (5% = 2,68) < thitung = 5,157 > ttabel (1% = 2,42). Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat diketahui bahwa telah terbukti penggunaan media kartu kata berwarna mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap keterampilan membaca permulaan. Kata Kunci: Media kartu kata berwarna, keterampilan membaca permulaan. Abstract Reading skill was a skill that need to be mastered by student in elementary school. Through reading activity, student can get new knowledges. The aim of this study was to know the effect of colored word cards media on the initial reading skill of primary school student class I. The design of this study was true experimental design with pretest-posttest control design. The sample was distributed normally with Ltable (5% = 13,1) > Lcounted = 8,16. The data was homogeny with Ftable (5% = 2,00) > Fcounted = 1,032 < Ftable (1% = 2,70). The t-test result showed that ttable (5% = 2,68) < tconted = 5,157 > ttable (1% = 2,42). Based on these result, it was proved that the colored word cards had a significant effect towards the initial reading skill of student. Keywords: coloured word cards, initial reading skill
