Abstract

Background: Balanced nutrition education is an essential effort in preventing obesity, especially in adolescents who are vulnerable to nutritional problems due to unhealthy diets and a lack of knowledge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Android-based e-pocket books in improving the understanding of balanced nutrition among adolescents in Yogyakarta. Methods: This study employed an experimental design with control groups, utilizing pre-tests and post-tests. Conducted from February to March 2023 in a high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the research established a minimum sample size of 27 students per group through the Lemeshow formula and multistage sampling. Inclusion criteria required students to have Android phones, to consent to participate, to attend the study, and to complete data collection. The treatment group received education via e-pocket-book media, while the control group used e-leaflets. Knowledge was measured at three points: before the intervention, immediately after (post-test 1), and nine days later (post-test 2). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests with SPSS software. Results: The knowledge score of the treatment group increased from 76.3 (pre-test) to 93.8 (post-test 1) and 91.3 (post-test 2). The control group increased from 73.8 (pre-test) to 82.5 (post-test 1) and 81.3 (post-test 2). The increase in knowledge was more significant in the treatment group, showing that e-pocket-books were more effective than e-leaflets. Conclusion: Android-based e-pocket-books improve adolescents' knowledge of balanced nutrition more than e-leaflets. Digital technology in nutrition education has great potential to be applied in schools. Further research is needed to evaluate the long-term impact on nutritional behavior.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Menurut Survei Kesehatan Indonesia tahun 2023, sebanyak 15,5% remaja putri menderita anemia, sehingga anemia sebagai suatu masalah kesehatan yang signifikan. Salah satu faktor yang berkaitan dengan anemia remaja adalah rendahnya pengetahuan dan kepatuhan konsumsi Fe.Tujuan: Mengevaluasi efektivitas edukasi gizi menggunakan e-booklet dibandingkan dengan media slide dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan sikap terkait anemia.Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi eksperimental dengan desain pretest-posttest control group. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Maret-April 2024, melibatkan 85 siswi SMP di Yogyakarta, yang dibagi ke dalam kelompok intervensi (e-booklet dan media slide) dan kelompok kontrol (media slide). Data tentang pengetahuan dan sikap dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner terstruktur pada tiga tahap: pretest, posttest-1, dan posttest-2. Analisis statistik yang digunakan adalah paired t-test, uji wilcoxon, independent t-test, dan uji mann-whitney.Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam skor pengetahuan pada kedua kelompok, dengan kelompok intervensi mencapai skor post-test yang lebih tinggi (89,1 vs 78,8; p<0,05). Meskipun kedua kelompok menunjukkan sedikit peningkatan dalam hal sikap, perubahan yang diamati tidak mencapai signifikansi secara statistik. Temuan ini menyoroti efektivitas e-booklet sebagai alat pembelajaran digital, yang menawarkan fleksibilitas dan konten mendalam yang mendukung pembelajaran mandiri.Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi potensi e-booklet untuk mengatasi kesenjangan pengetahuan tentang anemia di kalangan remaja. Pembuat kebijakan sebaiknya mengintegrasikan e-booklet ke dalam program pendidikan kesehatan nasional dan menggabungkannya dengan metode offline yang interaktif untuk meningkatkan perubahan pengetahuan remaja.KATA KUNCI: anemia; e-booklet; pengetahuan; remaja putri; sikap ABSTRACTBackground: Based on Indonesia Health Survey 2023, 15,5% female adolescents suffer from anemia, as a significant health problem. Abstract

ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Obesitas merupakan masalah kesehatan masyarakat dengan peningkatan prevalensi di semua kelompok usia di dunia. Salah satu faktor yang berkontribusi terhadap obesitas pada remaja adalah rendahnya literasi gizi dan pola makan yang tidak sehat. Tujuan: untuk mengetahui dampak intervensi edukasi dengan media e-booklet terhadap pengetahuan dan asupan makanan. Metode: single group pre-posttest intervention pada remaja di SMA di Kabupaten Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Sampel ditentukan dengan kriteria inklusi siswa SMAN 1 Sentolo, kelas X dan XI, bersedia menjadi responden, hadir saat pengumpulan data dan mempunyai skor IMT/U > 1 SD, sehingga berjumlah 46 orang. Intervensi edukasi diberikan dengan media e-booklet melalui grup WhatsApp sedangkan data pengetahuan dan asupan makanan diobservasi pada saat pre-test, posttest-1 dan posttest-2. Data pengetahuan dikumpulkan dengan kuesioner dan data asupan makanan dikumpulkan dengan food recall 2 x 24 jam lalu dianalisis dengan t-test dan Wilcoxon.Hasil: Skor pengetahuan siswa pre, posttest-1 dan posttest-2 masing-masing adalah 56,3; 94,5; dan 98,5. Terdapat perbedaan pengetahuan yang signifikan baik pada posttest-1 maupun posttest-2. Tingkat asupan energi, protein, karbohidrat dan lemak pada pengukuran pre, posttest-1 dan posttest-2. Asupan energi menurun dari 126%, 110% dan 91%; asupan protein menurun dari 163%, 156% dan 106%; asupan lemak menurun dari 153%, 137% dan 106%; asupan karbohidrat menurun dari 100%, 91%, 76%. Hasil analisis menyatakan ada perbaikan asupan yang signifikan baik pada posttest-1 maupun posttest-2 kecuali asupan karbohidrat pada posttest-1. Kesimpulan: Edukasi gizi dengan media e-booklet berdampak pada peningkatan pengetahuan tentang obesitas dan memperbaiki asupan makanan pada remaja yang mengalami overweight dan obesitas.  KATA KUNCI: asupan;edukasi; e-booklet; pengetahuan; protein; remaja.  ABSTRACTBackground: Obesity is a public health problem with increasing prevalence in all age groups in the world. One of the factors that contribute to obesity in adolescents is low nutritional literacy and unhealthy diets.Objective: To determine the impact of educational interventions with e-booklet to knowledge and  food intakeMethod: A single group pre-posttest intervention study was conducted on adolescents in senior high school Sentolo 1 (SMAN 1 Sentolo), Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The sample was chosen by criteria for grades X and XI, willing to be responders, present during data collection, and had BMI-for-age-score >1 SD, as many as 46 participants included this study. Educational interventions were provided with e-booklet was shared through WhatsApp groups, while knowledge and food intake were observed during the pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2. Knowledge was collected by questionnaire, and food intake was collected by food recall 2x24 hours. We apply t-test and Wilcoxon to analyze the data. Results: The knowledge scores significantly improved from 56.3 (pre-test) to 94.5 (post-test 1) and 98.5 (post-test 2) (p< 0.05). Significant reductions were observed in energy, protein, carbohydrate, and fat intake between pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2, demonstrating the intervention's effectiveness in improving dietary habits among adolescents.Conclusion: Nutrition education using e-booklet has an impact on increasing knowledge about obesity and improving food intake in adolescents who are overweight and obese. KEYWORDS: adolescent; education; e-booklet; intake; knowledge; protein. Article submitted on January 19, 2025; Articles revised on February 17, 2025; Articles received on July 25, 2025; Articles available online on November 28, 2025
