Abstract

Background: Striae gravidarum happens during the 18th week to the 32nd week in pregnant women, this is as a result of over distance of abdominal wall. Striae Gravidarum inextricably linked with relaxin hormone. Human chorionic gonadotropin will increase the secretion of relaxin. Secretion of this hormone will decrease following the 24th week, consequently the risk of developing Striae gravidarum becomes higher. It may result in itch, in the worst case of Striae gravidarum itching. Objective: To determine the influence of Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis Miller) usage on itch reduction in pregnant women with striae gravidarum. Methods: Using a one-group pretest-posttest design methodology, this study employed a quasi-experiment design. Thirty responders were among the samples. This study took place in May 2023. Itching score was measured using VAS. Paired T-test was used for data analysis. Results: Average of itching frequency prior to the use of aloe vera was 8.27, upon the use of aloe vera its average was 2.97cc. The mean of measurement difference before and after was 5.3.Conclusion: The application of aloe vera demonstrates efficacy in alleviating itching in expectant mothers experiencing striae gravidarum

Abstract

Insufficient breast milk (ASI) is the main reason why mothers stop giving breast milk (ASI), because mothers feel they cannot meet their baby's nutritional needs and there is no increase in the baby's weight. During this crisis, women who give birth by caesarean section often face problems providing breast milk (ASI). Based on data from the health profile of West Java province in 2020, the percentage of babies < 6 months who received exclusive breast milk (ASI) reached (56.5%). Failure to express breast milk (ASI) in mothers after giving birth can be caused by a lack of stimulation of the hormone oxytocin which plays an important role in the production of breast milk (ASI). This study aims to determine the effect of lactation massage on the volume of breast milk (ASI) in 1st parity post sectio caesarea (SC) patients at the Bandung Kiwari Regional Hospital. The type of research used was experimental (quasi experimental) with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. This sampling technique is purpose sampling. The sample was taken with a total of 36 participants divided into 2 interventions, 18 people, 18 people in the control group were processed using statistical tests, namely the Independent Sample T-test. The cross tabulation results of the average respondent in the intervention group were 10.39 ml and the average value in the control group was 5.78 ml with the difference between the two being 4.61 ml. The results of the bivariate analysis test showed that there was a significant influence between the effects of lactation massage on first parity post partum cesarean section mothers on breast milk volume with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05.

Abstract

Background: Aromatherapy during childbirth is considered a complementary therapy to reduce pain intensity. Aromatherapy may influence the brain’s limbic system (the center of emotions) and stimulate the release of endorphins and enkephalins, which have analgesic effects, as well as serotonin, which helps reduce anxiety and tension. Objective: To determine the effect of peppermint aromatherapy on labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor at TPMB “S”, Ujungberung District, Bandung City. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sampling technique was total sampling, involving 30 women in the active phase of the first stage of labor. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) through an observation sheet. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, with the Wilcoxon test to assess the effect of peppermint aromatherapy on labor pain. Results: Before the intervention, the majority of participants experienced severe pain (25 respondents; 83.3%), while 5 respondents (16.7%) reported moderate pain. After the intervention, most participants reported moderate pain (22 respondents; 73.3%), while only 1 respondent (3.4%) remained in the severe pain category (another category was recorded in 7 respondents; 23.3%). The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000 (α = 0.05). Conclusion: Peppermint aromatherapy significantly reduced labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor at TPMB “S”.
