Abstract

The term cultural differences had long been known by a lot of people all around the world, but only a few of them knows about cultural differences happened in English training program by English Education Department just like English Camp Program. Due to that reason, the researcher is interested in digging more about the cultural differences towards English-speaking countries in English Camp Program 2019 in relation to the understanding of college students about some foreign cultures. In general, this research will use qualitative descriptive method because the main goal is to describe about students? understanding on cultural differences through that English Camp Program. More specifically, this research will use receptive approach along with sinchronic method because it is only observe about the phenomena which happened in certain period of time. The result shows that students can understand about cultural differences in English-speaking countries through debating, public speaking, and presenting what?s on their booth. Cultures understood during the program are about tourist attractions, culinary aspects, myths and legends, people?s habits and ideas, music and dance, government system, arts and festivals, region and religion. Moreover, the students will enable to understand cultures quickly and easily if they are given the information practically rather than theoretically like giving materials in the classroom.

Abstract

Proses pembelajaran merupakan suatu sistem dalam lingkup dunia pendidikan. Untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan tentu saja dibutuhkan sebuah proses pembelajaran dengan sistem yang terencana dengan baik, salah satunya adalah melalui metode pelatihan peningkatan pengembangan kemampuan writing melalui media pop-up brochure.Pelatihan ini dilakukan untuk siswa SMP Al-Kahfi Bangkalan dimana karakteristik para siswanya masih memiliki motivasi dan semangat belajar yang rendah untuk menulis dalam bahasa Inggris. Mereka merasa jenuh dengan pembelajaran yang monoton. Maka dari itu, dilakukan perubahan dalam media pembelajaran di kelas dengan menggunakan media pop-up brochure dengan tema traveling dan menerapkan metode presentasi media belajar sehingga siswa merasa lebih tertarik untuk mulai meningkatkan kemampuan writing mereka. Hasil akhirnya dapat dilihat bahwa terdapat peningkatan motivasi dan pemahaman para siswa SMP tersebut dalam menulis teks-teks deskriptif sehingga bisa menghasilkan cerita yang utuh dan memiliki kronologi karena mereka tertarik dengan tema yang diberikan.

Abstract

Language is a combination of several words that have rules in compiling or combining some words into a whole meaning. The relationship between language and society can be called as a sociolinguistics. One of them is code-mixing and code-switching usage. This reserach uses a qualitative research to gets some information about the what, how, when and where of an event occurs or phenomenom. Besides that, the objectives of the research are: (1) to describe the form of code-mixing usage in teaching and learning process on the Seventh semester of the English Department, and (2) to describe the form of code-switching usage in teaching and learning process on the Seventh semester of the English Department.The findings showed that the students used code-mixing and code-switching usage in their presentation process. Firstly, they used code-mixing which consists of 116 forms of the word, 72 forms of the phrase and 1 form of the clause. In the forms of word often used by the students are 16 nouns, 16 adverbs, 12 adjectives, and 12 verbs. Besides that, there are 16 expressions, 12 affixes, and 32 question words usage also in their presentation process. Secondly, they used code-switching which consists of 4 intra-sentential switching and 895 inter-sentential switching. Finally, it can be concluded that in the code-mixing usage, the students are more likely to use the form of the word, while the code-switching usage, they are more likely to use inter-sentential switching.

Abstract

Nowadays, traveling has been transformed drastically into a-must-do activity to ensure that they can keep update on what’s trending now. Today there are a whole bunch of advertisements which attract people to go traveling the world. And this phenomenon is strengthen with the abundance amount of online traveling applications like Traveloka, PegiPegi, Tiket.com, Agoda, Airy, AirBnb, and many more lists which make traveling become much more practice and pretty easier. Based on those facts, this research aims to explore more about how big the influence of the advertisements and online traveling applications will affect people to go traveling as well as to examine about about the ways traveling influences people’s perspective in seeing the world. This research used ethnomethodology as the research design since it discusses much about the traveling phenomenon in relation with people’s perspective and response in seeing the world outside. The data were gathered through online questionnaire in the Facebook group of ‘Backpacker Dunia’ which consist of twenty submitted questionnaires. Personal data analysis (through questionnaire and interviews) was performed to test whether the influence of advertisements and online traveling applications will affect people to go traveling and whether traveling influences people’s perspective in seeing the world or not. The data analysis were conducted by using qualitative descriptive method. The results revealed that in the end they realized that traveling is always the best way to learn about everything, including about the culture and the ways people seeing the world. In short, there will always be the symbol (relationship between words), the referent (something or the thing it describes), and the meaning (the thought which is related to the word and the thing).

Abstract

The study aims to know the kinds of bilingualism classrooms. The research design of the study was qualitative which focuses on a case study. This study focused on Colin’s theory about the kinds of bilingualism programs, they are bilingual programs, structured immersion, enrichment programs, and transitional programs. The data were obtained by observing the teacher and students in the videos teaching-learning process in bilingualism classroom by making a transcript. The result of the research finding revealed that there are only three kinds of bilingualism program of videos, the first bilingual program, second enrichment program, and the third transitional program.

Abstract

The quality of nutritional service is one of the indicators of the quality hospital service. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to find out the relationship between the quality of hospital nutritional service and the level of patient’s satisfaction hospitalized in Teratai Room of Islamic Hospital located on Jemursari, Surabaya.The design of research was analytic cross sectional. The population of patient’s hospitalized ≥ 3 days in Teratai Room of Islamic Hospital located on Jemursari, Surabaya by 40 respondents, a sample of 36 respondents, taken using a consecutive sampling.The independent variable was the quality of hospital nutritional service, where as the dependent one was the level of patient’s satisfaction. Instrument using a questionnaire sheet. Analysis of the data by the Fisher Exact Test. The result of research showed that most of the respondent (52,2%) said the quality of nutritional hospital service is good and nearly half (47,2%) said they were satisfied. Fisher’s Exact Test statistic test value obtained ρ = 0.007 describing that there was a significant relationship between the quality of hospital nutritional service and the level of patient’s satisfaction hospitalized in the hospital. The research has concluded that most of the quality nutritional of hospital service is have good and patient’s have satisfaction. The nutritional official must be through, when process and prepare a dish up a food a patient

Abstract

Universitas Airlangga telah dikenal luas sebagai salah satu tujuan pendidikan tinggibagi para siswa internasional untuk belajar tentang Bahasa Indonesia. Baru-baru ini, isu yangberkaitan dengan penggunaan bahasa Inggris sebagai lingua franca untuk mengajar siswainternasional tentang Bahasa Indonesia telah mendapatkan banyak sekali perhatian darikalangan akademisi. Lebih dari itu, memiliki siswa internasional berarti bahwa suatuuniversitas dituntut untuk bisa memberikan harapan serta tanggung jawab yang lebih besar.Dalam kasus semacam ini, siswa-siswa internasional tersebut mungkin saja akan mengalamibeberapa perbedaan dalam hal sistem pendidikan dan pelayanan dalam kaitannya dengannilai-nilai personal yang mereka miliki yang pastinya akan berbeda dengan negara tempatmereka belajar sekarang. Berdasarkan pada fakta-fakta itulah, penelitian ini bertujuan untukmenggali dan mengetahui lebih banyak tentang hubungan antara nilai-nilai personal danderajat kepuasan terhadap institusi pendidikan dari siswa-siswa internasional yang sedangbelajar di Fakultas Ilmu Budaya – Universitas Airlangga. Data akan dikumpulkan melaluikuesioner yang disebarkan secara online yang terdiri dari dua puluh pertanyaan dimana adasepuluh pertanyaan tentang nilai-nilai personal dan sepuluh pertanyaan tentang derajatkepuasan terhadap institusi pendidikan. Analisis data personal dilakukan untuk mengujihubungan antara nilai-nilai personal dan derajat kepuasan terhadap institusi pendidikan darisiswa-siswa internasional dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif.Kemudian peneliti berniat akan menggali lebih jauh tentang setiap jawaban yang diberikanoleh siswa-siswa internasional tersebut dalam beberapa diagram tabel. Selain itu peneliti jugamelakukan wawancara singkat dengan siswa-siswa internasional tersebut. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai personal ternyata memiliki efek positif dalam hal derajatkepuasan terhadap sistem pendidikan institusi di Fakultas Ilmu Budaya – UniversitasAirlangga.

Abstract

Currently, rapidly developing technology has been used in education. YouTube is one of the technologies that can be used as an effective learning media in speaking skills of each student, especially speaking. This study aims to describe the implementation and the students’ responses toward the use of YouTube tourism video in teaching students’ speaking skill. The method in this study used qualitative research which focus on case study research. It involved the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 3 Bangkalan as the subject of the research. The data were obtained through the observation during the teaching and learning process and an interview with the students. In this study, the researcher accomplished several steps to analyse the data, namely organizing and familiarizing, coding and reducing, interpreting and representing. The first research findings reveal that YouTube Tourism videos are used by teachers and students inside and outside the classroom. Teachers take advantage of YouTube tourism to provide writing assignments, speaking assignments and feedback on students' speaking. Meanwhile, students use YouTube to provide corrections and suggestions to their friends. The second finding revealed that students gave positive responses on the use of YouTube Tourism in speaking. The students say that YouTube is media that is easy to use, effective, and attractive. It also develops students writing and speaking skills are able to motivate students in speaking.
