Abstract

Post-stroke depression is the most common mood disorder after stroke, and the main factor of recovery limitation and rehabilitation in stroke patients. Depression also negatively impacts stroke outcome with increased morbidity, mortality, and poorer functional recovery. This study aims to examine the characteristics of patients who can be associated with depression experienced in patients before and after 1 month undergoing a stroke rehabilitation program in the first 3 months after a stroke onset. This study used descriptive correlative with cross sectional approach, total sampling were 22 respondents using purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria for stroke patients who had the first or second stroke, had hemiplegia in the upper and / or lower extremities less than 3 months, had a Muscle Manual Testing (MMT) score <4. Exclusion criteria for patients with Trans-ischemic attack and patients with a history of depression. The assessment tools contained demographic questionnaire, Aphasic depression rating scale (ADRS) and MMT. The results showed that age, educational background, and caregiver contributed to the score of depression (p < The health service center hoped will form a group of stroke survivors as a form of social support so that patients have more opportunities to communicate and support each other, and thus improve their physical abilities, and emotional well-being. Keywords: Post-stroke depression, ishemic stroke, ADRS

Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to describe self-reported PA performance and determine predictors regarding health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among heart failure (HF) patients. Methods: A cross-sectional design was adopted, and data were collected using a questionnaire comprising demographic characteristics, illness-related factors, self-report health status (SRHS) questionnaire, international PA questionnaire, and Minnesota Living with Heart Failure questionnaire. Subsequently, data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The mean age for the total participants of 180 HF patients was 59.92 ± 11.90 years, with 60% being male, and the mean HRQOL score was 42.96 ± 20.47. HRQOL had significant correlations with HF medication (r= 0.20, p< 0.01), health status (HS) (r= 0.35, p< 0.01), PA (r= -0.52, p< 0.01), and HRQOL was associated with the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification (F= 94.57, p< 0.001). Meanwhile, age, gender, job, marital status, religion, level of education, hemoglobin, body mass index, length of diagnostic HF, and comorbidities did not have a significant relationship with HRQOL. Three variables were significant predictors of HRQOL, namely HS (β= 0.21, p< 0.01), NYHA Class III (β= 0.15, p< 0.05), and PA (β= -0.31, p< 0.001). Conclusions: Regular PA is crucial in improving HRQOL of HF patients. In addition, HS, HF medication, and NYHA Class should be considered in providing care for HF patients aimed at improving HRQOL.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease Symptom Burden Index (CKD-SBI) is an instrument measuring symptom burden developed by Almutary and colleagues in 2015 to refine the identification of symptom burden in chronic kidney disease population. This instrument has not been tested for Indonesian language, thus, the aim of study was to translate and psychometrically testing the Indonesian version of CKD-SBI. Methods: This study design was cross-sectional study. The study methods were divided into translation and psychometric testing. The translation was conducted by adapting Guillemin and Beaton's guidelines. The psychometric properties determined 320 hemodialysis patients with several inclusion criteria such as above 18 years old, regularly receiving hemodialysis for more than 3 months. Patients with cognitive impairment, psychiatric patients, and in critical condition were excluded. Results: The item content validity index of the Indonesian version was 0.92, and the subscale content validity was 0.78. The instrument demonstrated convergent validity with the Kidney Disease Quality of Life. Excellent internal consistency was demonstrated based on a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of .91 and a subscale ranging from 0.86 to 0.92. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the five factors of English Version did not fit the Indonesian version.  Conclusions: Translated Indonesian versions of CKD-SBI can be used as instruments to assess symptom burden among patients with hemodialysis. By assessing symptom burden, we hope nurses in the hospital are able to decide effective symptom management to increase the health-related quality of life among these populations.
