Abstract

Fenomena pluralitas agama yang hadir di tengah kehidupan saat ini menuntut kita agar mampu menyikapinya dengan bijaksana. Terlebih bagi umat muslim, di mana dewasa ini Islam seringkali dituduh sebagai agama yang diskriminatif dan sulit menerima adanya keberagaman. Pasalnya bermula dari munculnya sebagian muslim yang mendakwahkan Islam dengan jalan kekerasan, memerangi bahkan membunuh umat-umat lain yang tidak sejalan dengan Islam. Sehingga tentu saja ini berimbas pada rusaknya citra Islam. Padahal, 14 abad yang lalu Nabi Muhammad telah mengajarkan dan mempraktekkan langsung bagaimana seharusnya sikap seorang muslim dalam berhubungan dengan umat-umat lain di luar Islam. Alhasil, Nabi berhasil menjadikan Islam sebagai agama rahmatan lil ‘ālamīn yang menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai toleransi antar umat beragama. Di samping itu, perlu disadari bahwa sikap dan perilaku Nabi tersebut tidak terlepas dari wahyu yang Allah turunkan kepadanya (al-Qur’an). Artinya, Al-Qur’an menjadi petunjuk bagi Nabi dalam menentukan sikap yang harus dilakukan ketika berhubungan dengan non-muslim ketika itu. Seperti misalnya dalam QS. Al-Mumtahanah ayat 8-9, di mana Allah memberitahukan bahwa Nabi tidak dilarang untuk tetap berbuat baik dan berlaku adil terhadap orang-orang non-muslim yang tidak memeranginya. Maka, dari ayat ini muncullah respon Nabi, baik itu berupa perkataan maupun sikap dan perbuatan. Sehingga respon tersebut dijadikan tafsiran yang menjelaskan ayat-ayat al-Qur’an ini. Lebih lanjut, dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif-analitis, dalam tulisan ini penulis akan mencoba menganalisis hadis-hadis Nabi yang menjelaskan ayat-ayat al-Qur’an mengenai relasi muslim dan non-muslim tersebut, agar nantinya dapat menjadi salah satu upaya dalam mewujudkan toleransi antar umat beragama.

Abstract

Conflict between religious communities, until now, is still a plague that never heals. In fact, in Indonesia itself, not only conflicts between people of different religions, conflicts between religions also often occur. Among Muslims for example, one Muslim group with another Muslim group often conflicts due to differences in understanding. This incident is not uncommon due to mutual self-righteousness. One community considers that the group's understanding is the most correct, while the other community is wrong. Conversely, other communities are also reluctant to be blamed, so it is not surprising that this kind of conflict leads to hostility, dissension, even to violence and murder. This certainly threatens the comfort and harmony of life in Indonesia, and must be eradicated. For this reason, this paper will offer an idea called the “tauhidic paradigm”. This idea necessitates that everyone truly affirms God (tauhid) and actualizes it in religious life. That is, every religious community must realize and believe that only God should be exalted. While all humans occupy the same and equal position as servants of God, so no one has the right to feel himself superior and better than other servants. So, in the “tauhidic paradigm”, a servant is not justified to denigrate and denigrate other peoples. Thus, this tauhidic paradigm will certainly play an important role in strengthening the values of tolerance for every religious community in Indonesia, so that with tolerance that Islamic moderation in Indonesia can be realized.

Abstract

This article discusses the coherence of sura, a method of tafsir advocated by contemporary Western scholars, which has been recognized by Nusantara scholars. The focus here is on Buya Malik Ahmad, a Minangkabau scholar of tafsir who authored a work titled “Tafsir Sinar”. In addition to emphasizing the nuzuli (interpretation based on chronology of revelation) tafsir of sura, Buya Malik’s tafsir is also strongly infused with its coherence. By grouping verses into categories, Buya Malik seeks to demonstrate that the suras in the Qur’an form a cohesive and integral unity. This research identifies at least three characteristics of Buya Malik’s tafsir. First, Buya Malik not only establishes the internal coherence of sura but also its external coherence. Second, he categorizes verses not only based on the grammatical structure and thematic content of a sura but also based on information about its revelation (tartib nuzuli). Lastly, Buya Malik determines the main theme of a sura through its chronological order of revelation (tartib nuzuli). These three characteristics contribute a distinct perspective to the discourse on sura coherence, especially in the Nusantara region.

Abstract

This article examines wasatiyya through the eyes of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). In terms of current religiosity in Indonesian society, most people are polarized into two extreme patterns, namely the extreme right and the extreme left. The role of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is demonstrated by demonstrating the concept of Islamic wasatiyya taught by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The emergence of radicalism and liberalism was undoubtedly influenced by several factors, including religious exaggeration or, conversely, taking religious matters lightly. This article specifically seeks to answer two questions. First and foremost, how did the MUI come to be? Second, how does the MUI view the concept of wasatiyya da'wah? Third, what is the role of the Indonesian Ulema Council's (MUI) fatwa for the Indonesian people? As a result, we can see that the MUI, a semi-official institution in Indonesia, plays an important role in religious matters for Indonesian society, including preventing the emergence of extreme right and extreme left views. Until we believe MUI has carried out a religious moderation movement, also known as Wasatiyya al-Islam. Keywords: MUI, Preaching, Radical, Wasatiyya.

Abstract

Momok intoleransi tampak semakin mengancam setelah didapati sederet kasus yang melibatkan anak-anak. Mulai dari ujaran kebencian (hate speech), penyerangan individu dan rumah ibadah umat agama lain, bahkan hingga melakukan aksi terorisme berupa penembakan dan pengeboman. Kondisi mengenaskan ini mesti segera diberantas mengingat anak-anak sebagai tunas bangsa yang akan memperjuangkan keharmonisan bangsa ke depan. Dengan menggali keteladanan kisah Luqman (QS Luqman: 15), tulisan ini menegaskan bahwa nilai-nilai toleransi sangat perlu ditumbuhkan sejak usia dini. Peran keluarga sebagai madrasatul ula perlu direvitalisasi. Mulai dari pembekalan, pembiasaan, keteladanan, hingga pengawasan perlu diimplementasikan sebagai langkah-langkah praktis yang ditawarkan dalam tulisan ini.

Abstract

The advancement of contemporary biomedical issues has brought forth two distinct responses among Muslim scholars. The traditional view, which strictly adheres to the Quran and tradition, tends to find it difficult or even outright rejects modern biomedical practices as they may conflict with religious texts. On the other hand, the rationalist perspective tends to be more open and accommodating towards modern biomedical practices as it relies on independent reasoning detached from revelation. While acknowledging the existence of the traditionalist viewpoint in the modern era, this paper focuses on the rationalist perspective, discussing how biomedical decisions are made. By examining rationalist views on several modern biomedical issues such as organ transplantation, in vitro fertilization, and blood trading, the researcher argues that the flexibility of the maqāsid al-sharīʿah principles has become the framework in the development of this biomedical field. The researcher highlights a shift in the maqāsid paradigm from a theocentric paradigm – interpreting religion with the narrow goal of 'defending God' – to an anthropocentric paradigm – interpreting religion to defend human beings and their rights. Using discourse analysis methodology, this study argues that the paradigm shift towards an anthropocentric maqāsid has integrated Sharia with human subjectivity influenced by interests. Consequently, modern biomedical issues, which address the interests of safeguarding human life, are prioritized. Finally, although such maqāsid may potentially lead to a liquid Islamic law, the researcher concludes that an anthropocentric maqāsid paradigm will be more humane, dynamic, accommodating, and responsive to the demands of human life development. Abstrak: Kemajuan isu-isu biomedis kontemporer saat ini telah memunculkan dua aliran respon yang berbeda di mata para cendekiawan muslim. Pandangan tradisional, yang dengan ketat berpedoman pada Al-Qur’an dan tradisi, cenderung sulit atau bahkan tidak menerima sama sekali praktik-praktik biomedis modern karena bertentangan dengan nash-nash agama. Sementara pandangan rasionalis cenderung lebih terbuka dan akomodatif menerima praktik-praktik biomedis modern karena berpedoman pada penilaian akal sendiri yang terlepas dari wahyu. Terlepas dari mendiskusikan keberadaan pandangan pertama (tradisionalis) di era modern ini, makalah ini akan fokus pada pandangan kedua (rasionalis) dengan mendiskusikan bagaimana putusan-putusan biomedis dikeluarkan. Dengan mengkaji pandangan-pandangan rasionalis terhadap beberapa isu biomedis modern, seperti transplantasi organ, bayi tabung, dan jual beli darah, peneliti berargumen bahwa fleksibilitas prinsip-prinsip maqāsid al-syarīah telah menjadi framework dalam pengembangan bidang biomedis ini. Di sini, peneliti menyoroti adanya pergeseran maqāsid dari paradigma teosentris; menjalankan agama dengan tujuan ‘membela Tuhan’ dalam pengertian yang sempit, ke paradigma antroposentris; menjalankan agama untuk membela manusia dan hak-haknya. Dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana, penelitian ini berargumen bahwa pergeseran paradigma maqāsid menuju antroposentris telah menjadikan syari’ah menyatu dengan subjektivitas manusia yang dipengaruhi oleh kepentingan-kepentingan. Karenanya, isu-isu biomedis modern, yang menjawab kepentingan menjaga jiwa manusia, adalah diutamakan. Terakhir, meskipun maqāsid seperti ini berpotensi mengarah pada liquid Islamic law, peneliti berkesimpulan bahwa paradigma maqāsid antroposentris akan lebih humanis, dinamis, akomodatif, dan responsif terhadap tuntutan perkembangan kehidupan manusia.
