Abstract

The purpose of this research is to clarify the characteristics of industrial learning in Japanese elementary school social studies and to compare viewpoints on social studies in Indonesia. The following three points have become clear as a result of this research, as part of industrial learning in elementary school social studies in Japan, at the class practice level. First, in industrial learning in elementary school social studies in Japan, a unit design was conducted using factories in the area as teaching materials. Second, lessons were conducted through factory tours from the perspective of increasing awareness of the efforts of those working in factories. Third, learning processes involving learners were developed, such as research, visit activities, and discussions centered on children?s problem awareness. The above three points are considered in order to make suggestions for the improvement of industrial learning in the social studies of elementary schools in Indonesia.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to clarify the characteristics of social studies lesson study in the Mikawa area of Aichi Prefecture in Japan and to show comparative viewpoints on social studies lesson study in Indonesia. For that purpose, I took up the practice of “I want to know more about  the nearest country: Korea!” Through the examination of this practice, I identified the following three points as what we achieve through social studies lesson study: (1) we are creating a conceptual diagram of the social studies unit; (2) we are preparing a teaching instruction plan; and (3) we are conceiving a temporary arrangement and a method of practice. In this study, I examine the significance and the problem.

Abstract

This research aims to emphasize the characteristics of social studies for civic education practice in Japan through a case study of junior high school 3rd grade practice of “human rights learning through participatory hands-on learning” and to show comparative viewpoints on social studies in Indonesia. The following points became clear as a result of this research. First, through the unit of social studies and civic education, students could have fun and realize the value of human rights by adopting a participatory experiential approach to learning with the inclusion of workshops and simulated trials. This point is one of the important characteristics of citizenship in a democratic society. Second, in a social studies and civic education class, the students actively respected others’ opinions and learned from each other by actively participating in group activities and discussions. This point forms the basis of the citizenship necessary to form a democratic society. The above two points are thought to have implications for the social studies for civic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the legend of the “Feather Robe Pine” of the Toyo River, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, with the aim of clarifying the background of its formation and the characteristics of its transmission. Based on the archival analysis, the following insights were derived. As a result, four points were clarified. First, the background of the “Feather Robe Pine” legend preserved of the Toyo River is believed to have involved the prayers of the people in Toyo River basin for flood control. Second, a connection can be recognized between the legend of the “Feather Robe Pine” of the Toyo River and the Hoshino clan, whose influence extended into the Toyokawa River basin during the Muromachi period, held the position of “Role of the Heavenly Feather Robe” in the Daijosai ceremony. Third, the “Feather Robe Pine” legend of the Toyo River is connected to the story of the noblewoman and the “Single Leaf Tea Garden” preserved in Gyomei-cho. Fourth, the “Feather Robe Pine” legend of the Toyo River is considered to have been intricately constructed under the influence of the “Feather Robe Pine” legend of Miho no Matsubara.
