Abstract

ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran pengalaman remajaputri berkebutuhan khusus (retardasi mental) dalam menghadapi menstruasi di SLBN 1 Bantul.Metode: Penelitian dengan rancangan kualitatif dan pendekatan fenomenologi. Partisipan penelitianadalah delapan siswi retardasi mental ringan dan sedang di SLB N 1 Bantul. Wawancara langsungsecara mendalam kepada partisipan menggunakan pedoman interview tidak terstruktur denganpertanyaan open-ended. Analisis data menggunakan metode Colaizzi. Hasil: Partisipan padapenelitian ini berusia 17–20 tahun (75 persen), mengalami menarche pada usia 14–16 tahun (62,5persen), pendidikan SMA (50 persen), dan tingkat retardasi mental sedang (87,5 persen). Temayang dihasilkan pada penelitian ini adalah ambivalensi saat mengalami menarche, peran pentingibu dalam menghadapi menarche, ragam persepsi tentang arti menstruasi, perubahan normal yangdirasakan saat menstruasi, koping saat mengalami nyeri menstruasi, serta kesadaran terhadapnorma sosial terkait menstruasi versus kurang adekuatnya perawatan diri. Diskusi: Pengalamanremaja putri berkebutuhan khusus (retardasi mental) dalam menghadapi menstruasi secaragaris besar sama dengan yang dialami remaja normal, kecuali pada aspek kebersihan diri, caramembersihkan pembalut, masalah emosi, serta persepsi yang salah terkait kehamilan. Simpulan:Peran ibu sebagai caregiver sangat penting untuk memberikan pendidikan terkait menstruasi.Kata Kunci: menstruasi, retardasi mental.ABSTRACTObjective: This study aimed to identify menstrual experience in adolescents with special needs(mental retardation) at the Special School 1 Bantul. Method: This was a qualitative research withphenomenological approach. participants were eight female students with mild and moderatemental retardation. Direct in-depth interview was carried out with partisipants by using unstructuredinterviews guidelines with open-ended questions. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s method.Result: Participants in this study aged 17-20 years (75%), experienced menarche at 14-16 years old(62.5%), had high school education (50%), and had moderate mental retardation (87.5%). Themesproduced in this study were ambivalence when experiencing menarche, important role of mother tochild in facing menarche, various perceptions about the meaning of menstruation, abnormal changesfelt during menstruation, coping when experiencing menstrual pain, and awareness of social normsrelated to menstruation versus inadequate self-care. Discussion: Female adolescents with mentalretardation had experience of menstruation similar with normal teenagers, except in terms of personalhygiene, pad cleaning, emotional problems, and wrong perception about pregnancy. Conclusion:Mothers play very important role as caregiver in providing education about menstruation.Keywords: menstruation, mental retardation.
