Abstract

In today’s context, Islamic values seem to be allied from Moslem’s life, but the symbol of formal Islam looks always presented in many representations, as well as the people of politic and economic’ world are always using Islamic symbols to direct public opinion. The reason is probably due to religious symbol becomes one of the most effective determinants in this regard. These actual facts are contradicted with the idea of Islam formulated by Gus Dur. He has proposed the idea of Islamic Spirit. That’s why? I would like to propose two questions: what is the contextual meaning of Gus Dur's thoughts about Islamic Spirit, and what if the idea is juxtaposed to the emergence of extreme Islamic thought. For this sake, I use critical-analysis method. The result has shown that the context of Gus Dur’s thought was the emergence of the idea of formalizing Islamic Sharia into the constitutions of the state, Indonesia, after the fall of Soeharto’s new order. Then, Gus Dur tried to countering these new ideologies of Islamic formalization. Islam, based on Gus Dur perspective, is encouraging people to be performing any good deed. To be a good Muslim, someone has no need to do good deed in the name of Islam, but he could be enough having a humanism visions. Therefore, there is no need to formalizing Islam

Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to assess the financial health of Bank Mega Syariah during the 2019–2023 period using the CAMELS framework, to determine its performance stability and risk exposure. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach based on secondary data extracted from the annual financial reports of Bank Mega Syariah (2019–2023). The analysis is conducted using the CAMELS method, which evaluates six key aspects: Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity, and Sensitivity to Market Risk. The performance of Bank Mega Syariah is ranked relative to other Islamic banks operating in Indonesia. Research findings: The results show that Bank Mega Syariah consistently maintained a sound financial position throughout the five-year period. The bank ranked first in key indicators such as Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Non-Performing Financing (NPF), Operational Efficiency Ratio (BOPO), and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR). Additionally, it ranked second in Return on Assets (ROA) and Net Income (NI), and third in Net Operating Income (PDN), though it placed fourth in Return on Equity (ROE). Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study contributes to the limited body of empirical literature on Islamic bank performance in Indonesia by offering a multi-year evaluation using the comprehensive CAMELS framework. It enhances understanding of Islamic bank resilience and performance indicators under Sharia compliance. Practitioners/Policy Implications: The findings provide useful insights for bank management, investors, and regulators to support strategic decision-making, risk mitigation, and regulatory supervision. They also highlight the importance of maintaining balanced financial ratios to ensure long-term sustainability. Research Limitations/Implications: The analysis is limited to one Islamic bank and relies solely on publicly available financial reports, without incorporating macroeconomic variables or customer perception data. Future research could expand the scope to include comparative studies across multiple Islamic banks or introduce qualitative dimensions.

Abstract

Background: Indramayu Regency contributes significantly to rice production, facing a serious challenge, namely double pressure. Increase in production input prices (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, labor) and fluctuations in grain prices that tend to suppress profit margins. This study aims to explore the form of farmers' rationality to the influence of double pressure and identify the adaptations applied by farmers in managing risks and responding to realities in the field. Method: A descriptive qualitative approach of data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation in five main sub-districts, and then analyzed with Miles and Huberman's interactive model with source triangulation techniques to strengthen the validity of the data. Results: Indicate that profit-loss calculations, limited access to production resources, local social networks, and historical farming experience contextually influence farmers' rationality. Farmer adaptation also reveals the emergence of ecological and institutional dimensions, which are grounded in local experiences and community innovation. Conclusion, farmers in Indramayu not only survive but also transform the face of double pressures, demonstrating complex rationality and multidimensional adaptation
