Abstract

This study aimed to test the application of the Deep Flow Technique (DFT 4cm dan DFT 2cm)  and Nutrient Film Tecnique (NFT) bare root system hydroponic system on water spinach plants by calculating plan water requirements and measuring vegetative growth of water spinach plants with thickness / water level different. The results showed that the CU (Coefficient Uniformity) value was 95% in that DFT 4cm, 111,55ml of water as used, plant height and number of leaves were relatively that same as t6he other treatments with a plant mass weight of 181.28gr, with a stem meter of 12.92cm. DFT 2cm required 90.17ml of water with a plant mass weight of 160.33gr. NFT needs water as much as 106.57 ml with a plant mass weght of 153.28gr.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the thickness of irrigation water flow in the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) hydroponic system on the amount of plant water requirement (or evapotranspiration) and the Water Use Efficiency (WUE) in rice cv. Serayu at the vegetative phase. This research was carried out in a tropical greenhouse roofed with polyethylene (PE) plastic film. The treatments in this study were three kinds of thickness of  micro irrigation in the DFT hydroponic system, i.e. 2, 4 and 6 cm. The results showed that water requirement for each planting hole in rice plants during the vegetative phase (60 days) were 14.3650, 12.7025, and 11.3108 with biomass of 62.4576, 58.2874 and 52.6370 g, respectively for 6, 4 and 2 cm. The water use efficiency in 2, 4, 6-cm-DFT-system were 2.3268,  2.293 and 2.1740 g/L, respectively. Keywords: Hidroponics, Deep Flow Technique, Evapotranspiration, Water Use Efficiency

Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to design a pulper machine model TEP-JLL 2015 for fresh coffee robusta used in rural areas of Tana Toraja district. The machine was designed based on the analysis of physical characteristics of Robusta Tana Toraja coffee and literature study. The analysis result of physical characteristics showed the average length, thickness width was 12.494 mm, 12.802 mm, 10.687 mm, respectively, and the bulk density was 1,115 kg/m3. The theoretical hopper capacity of this machine was 3.7687 kg. Assuming the cylinder speed was 111.594 rpm with an effective distance setting system or flawed setting of 1.2 cm, the theoretical capacity of this pulper machine was 380.62 kg/hour. Keywords: fresh Robusta coffee fruit, pulper machine

Abstract

Hydroponics is a method of cultivating plants without using soil, but rather using a growing medium and nutrient solution. One commonly used hydroponic system is the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT), in which a nutrient solution is flowed in a thin, continuous stream along a sloping gutter. This study aimed to examine the effect of varying flow rate and gutter slope on the growth and yield of kale (Brassica oleraceae L.) in an NFT hydroponic system in a greenhouse. The study used two levels of gutter slope (5.24% and 8.75%) and three levels of flow rate (0.5 L/minute, 1.5 L/minute, and 2.5 L/minute) with a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors and three replications. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight, pH, and nutrient solution concentration (ppm). The results showed that the 8.75% slope treatment with a 2.5 L/minute flow rate produced the best growth, with an average plant height of 69.89 cm and a fresh weight of 86 g. Although the difference in fresh weight was not statistically significant, the treatment combination provided optimal vegetative growth. The nutrient solution pH ranged from 5.3–6.3 and ppm between 1060–1240, which is still suitable for leafy plant growth. Therefore, a combination of an 8.75% slope and a flow rate of 2.5 L/min is recommended as the optimal NFT system design for kale..

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of the TETA-FAR21 hybrid rack-type dryer in the drying process of Amorphophallus muelleri (porang) tubers. The research focuses on observing temperature, relative humidity, drying efficiency, and the drying characteristics, including the relationship between moisture content and drying rate over time. The study was conducted at the Biosystems Engineering Laboratory, Postharvest Subdivision, Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University, using an experimental method. The dryer consists of two racks, each containing six sample trays of approximately 100 g, with slice thickness treatments of 3 mm and 4 mm. The results showed that the average solar radiation intensity for the 3 mm thickness treatment was 476.1 W/m², while for 4 mm it was 372.4 W/m². The drying efficiency reached 7.32% for the 3 mm thickness and 6.19% for the 4 mm thickness. The hybrid dryer effectively maintained a stable temperature of 55°C. The moisture content of porang tubers decreased from 88.48% to 12.21% within 25 hours for the 3 mm slices and to 12.86% within 26 hours for the 4 mm slices. The average drying rate was 3.06%/hour for the 3 mm slices and 2.90%/hour for the 4 mm slices. Overall, the TETA-FAR21 hybrid dryer demonstrated efficient performance in maintaining stable drying conditions and producing high-quality dried porang chips.
