Abstract

This article discusses polygamy verse on contextual approach’s Abdullah Saeed. This approach will argue whether polygamy is permitted or prohibited on Abdullah Saeed’s thought. Polygamy is a condition which the husband who have more than one wife together in the same situation. It is a classical and everlasting problems because there are many contradiction in Muslim realm. Abdullah Saeed haven’t been giving a comprehensive exegesis in his work about it, so it will be new research approach. In the other hand, Abdullah Saeed’s contextual approach will give deeply interpretation towards polygamy verse in our life today. This research is library research with descriptive-analytic method to discover the verse in Abdullah Saeed’s approach.

Abstract

This paper examines tafsir as one of the oldest scientific disciplines developed by Muslims, who experienced dialectical shifts from time to time. Early tafsir was characterized by the bi al-mathur tradition or by its reliance on riwayah sources. While it is commonly argued that this mode of interpretation leaves no place for the mufassir's intervention, his subjectivity and rationality in choosing the preferred tradition cannot be ignored. Following that, tafsir evolved according to the bi al-ra'yi tradition which is believed to emphasize the mufassir’s reasoning while interpreting the Qur’an. This paper is addressed to examine this categorization, using Sherman Jackson’s traditions of reason that aim to compromise tafsir with varying hues of traditionalist and rationalist perspectives. This paper employs the library method by reviewing relevant literature to answers the main question. In the end, the limitations of a tafsir can be accepted as traditions of reason as long as the interpretation adheres to the fundamental criteria of interpretation. This includes mufassir’s profound understanding, no conflict with other verses or hadith, and, in many cases, its conformity with logic. Traditional and Rational elements are complementary and must be addressed proportionately. The emphasis on reason has the potential to lead to the mufassir's personal preferences and biases. Meanwhile, the usage of traditional riwayah will limit interpretive space and the context's applicability.

Abstract

Syarah hadis books which have existed are in the track of normative interpretation and t it less supporting our current issues. It is also happened with Fath al-Baari as one of famous and comprehensive syarah hadith book. Current issues such rejection of funeralal pray in Jakarta during governor election 2017 is the clear example. This phenomenon is related with hadith and hardly ever response by every single syarah hadis book so far. Toward this condition, it is important to see the rejection phenomenon of funeral prayer and the hadith in the contextualization method. This article will try to describe several hadith in case of funeral prayer with some interpretation based on Fath al-Baari and another syarah hadith book. To conclude, there is a contextualizationn method to give better actualization of understanding toward previous syarah hadith and avoid normative interpretation.

Abstract

This paper critically examines the ongoing debate surrounding the Islamic nature of Islamic philosophy by engaging with key Qur'anic narratives and philosophical discourses. The central question addressed is whether Islamic philosophy can genuinely be classified as “Islamic”, considering its amalgamation of Greco-Roman and Persian intellectual traditions. In common, Islamic philosophy addresses themes familiar to broader philosophy, but it does so from an Islamic perspective, using the language and context of Islamic civilization. By analyzing the works of prominent Muslim philosophers, including al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and al-Ghazali, the study explores how their interpretations and methodologies align—or diverge—from the foundational texts of Islam. Additionally, this paper highlights how Qur'anic narratives have been employed within Islamic philosophical thought to construct ethical, metaphysical, and theological frameworks. In conclusion, the “philosophical discussion of Islamic issues” is considered to be representative term for Islamic philosophy as it captures its essence and clarifies debates about its origins, actors, and focus discussions.

Abstract

AbstractAmongst some orientalist of Qur’anic studies, Arthur Jeffery was one of the controversial figures for the idea of a critical edition of the Qur’an. For Jeffery, the Qur’an existed today is unreasonable and its arrangement is clearly haphazard. One of his critical argument is surah al-Fatihah which indicated not originally part of the Qur’an. His work “the variant readings of the Fatihah” showed some peculiar nature of al-Fatiha with the evidence of two Fatihah different versions. Jeffery’s variants study is a polemical argument as its contradicts to the Muslim scholar arguments. For Muslim scholars, al-Fatihah is an integrated part of Qur’an. Therefore, this article will analyze Jeffery’s argument on al-Fatihah through a descriptive-analytic method. Based on historical, language, and qira’ah study, Jeffery’s argument is incorrect. In addition, Jeffery failed to show the existence of his evidence of variant of al-Fatihah.Keywords: Critic; Controversy; Fatiha; Muslim; the Qur’an  AbstrakDiantara sekian banyak para orientalis pengkaji al-Qur’an, Arthur Jeffery merupakan salah satu sosok yang paling kontroversial dengan gagasannya untuk membuat al-Qur’an edisi kritis. Menurut Jeffery, al-Qur’an yang ada saat ini sangat tidak jelas dan susunannya dilakukan secara sembarangan. Salah satu bagian yang Jeffery kritisi adalah surat al-Fatihah yang dianggap bukan bagian dari al-Qur’an. Dalam tulisannya yang berjudul the variant readings of the Fatihah, dia menunjukkan kejanggalan dalam surat al-Fatihah dengan menunjukkan bukti dua variasi surat al-Fatihah yang berbeda. Kajian ini mengundang polemik karena bertentangan dengan pandangan para sarjana Muslim yang menganggap al-Fatihah sebagai bagian penting dari al-Qur’an. Tulisan ini akan menganalisasi pandangan Jeffery terhadap surat al-Fatihah melalui metode deskriptif-analitis. Melalui kajian historis, kebahasaan, dan ilmu qira’at, argumen skeptis Jeffery terhadap al-Fatihah terbantahkan. Ditambah lagi, Jeffery tidak mampu membuktikan keberadaan variasi surat al-Fatihah yang dia yakini.  Kata Kunci: al-Fatihah; al-Qur’an; Kontroversi; Kritik; Muslim
