Abstract

YUN INDIARTO, MULYADI & RAZALI YUSUF, 1989.The structure and composition of mangrove in Bikoen-Kupang,Timor.Berita Biologi 3(9): 455 - 457.Mangrove forests in EastNusa Tenggara cover a total areas of about 1930 ha(Darsidi, 1984). Little is known about the mangrove forest in that island, especially in Bikoen, Kupang Region. Therefore, the study has been conducted at the mangrove forest of Menipo Nature Reserve in order to analyse the structure and composition of the species.Four transects perpendicular to the coast line were used for data collection. At least, there were 12 mangrove species found in the forest, dominated by Ceriops tagal, Rhizophora stylosa and Bruguiera exaristata. Seedlings dominated the forest by 49,92%, where as the sapling were 45.43%.

Abstract

RAZALI YUSUF.1987.The influence of Phytophthora colocasiae on distribution of Colocasia esculenta varieties in Jawa island. Suppl.Berita Biologi 3 : 17 - 19.Field observation on varieties of Colocasia esculenta var.esculenta and C.esculenta var.antiquorum showed that the distribution of these two botanical varieties has distinct pattern. The population of C.esculenta var.esculenta are more prevalent in the lowland, whereas the population of C.esculenta var.antiquorum are confined to higher elevations.Differences in their succeptibility to the attack of the fungus Phytophthora colocasiae'it one important factor which determines the natural distribution of these two botanical varieties.

Abstract

Undergrowth vegetation analysis in the old coconut stands in the Pari Island wasundertaken, to determine the structure and floristic composition in relation with their habitat characteristics. Physiognomically, the undergrowth vegetation typified by grasses community with Ischaemum muticum (Importance Value: 122.94%) and Imperata ylindrica (Importance Value:  5.45%) to be a dominant and co-dominant species, respectively. Floristically, the grasses community consists of 27 families along with their 56 genera and 58 species. Amongst those, only 15 species belong to a weed component and can be classified as principal and common weed species in the agricultural land in Indonesia. The grasses community has four common families in term of their highestnumber of species, viz Compositae, Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae and Poaceae.Based on the ordination technique of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) three distinct groups of the vegetation component can be recognized as (i) pes-caprae formation, (ii)Calophyllum formation and (iii) transition community zone. The spatial distribution of prevalent species in relation with their habitat characters was discussed. Generally, the grasses community can be classified into secondary vegetation of the small island. Keywords : Vegetasi bawah, pohon kelapa, kenanekaragaman jenis, mitigasi, pengelolaan terpadu pesisir dan laut, Pulau Pari, Teluk Jakarta

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Mountain Rain Forest Vegetation Analysis in Ciremai Mountain NationalPark, Majalengka, West Jawa. Vegetation study on some different altitude in CiremaiMountain National Park has been carried out with a quadrat methode. Ten plots were setup in altitude at 1600? 2050 m. The results of a floristic inventory of 1.2 hectare sampledplot show that there were 57 species of 42 genera in 28 families, represented by 1069individuals. The two leading families in terms of number of species were Euphorbiaceaeand Fagaceae while according to the most prominent species were Engelhardia spicata(Juglandaceae). There are differences of both zonation and altitudinal forest disturbance. The zone of 1600?1700 m asl. dominated by secondary species such as Saurauia nudiflora,Glochidion arborescens, Glochidion rubrum, Ficus fistulosa, Vernonia arborea andVillebrunea rubescens. In altitude of >1900 m asl. dominated by primary species such asMacropanax dispermum, Astronia spectabilis, Turpinia spaerocarpa, Elaeocarpus oxypyrenand Syzygium laxiflorum. The forest structure could be seen by diameter and heightstem classes distribution. Although the most of trees are small in size, but there havebeen still some largest trees were Engelhardia spicata, Turpinia sphaerocarpa and Astroniaspectabilis.Key words: West Java, Ciremai Mountain National Park, forest zonation, structure and speciescomposition
