Abstract

This study analyzes the contribution of human capital ie education and health to regional economic growth in Indonesia. This study uses the regional level of the province as the unit of analysis with the timeframe from 2004 to 2014. Development of economic growth model which is a dynamic model becomes a challenge for estimation of regression model, this study uses generalized method of moment (GMM) as an analytical tool to overcome bias Which occurred on the model of economic growth. This study provides empirical evidence on the role of education and health to regional economic growth in Indonesia. In addition, the estimation results also provide empirical results of conditional convergence with the contribution of human capital that is education and health as a determinant of convergence

Abstract

Abstract: The Role of Human Capital Toward Regional Economic Growth in Java. The aim of this study is to provide empirical evidence of the central role of human capital in economic growth. The contribution of this study is focused on Java island as a center of economic activities in Indonesia that needs to be analyzed the contribution of human capital development to the growth of regional economies. This study uses panel data on 114 counties and cities in Java during the period 2004-2013. Human capital indicators employed in this study is the average length of school for education and life expectancy for health. The estimation results indicate that education and health have a positive contribution to regional economic growth. Its shows the critical role of education as one of the primary sources to achieve better economic development. Another finding of this study is the positive role of investment and tends to be a negative contribution of the fiscal decentralization. Keywords: Regional Economic Growth, Human Capital, Panel Data, JavaAbstrak: Peran Modal Manusia Terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Regional di Jawa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan bukti empiris peran sentral modal manusia terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi. Kontribusi tersebut difokuskan di Pulau Jawa karena menjadi pusat aktivitas perekonomian di Indonesia sehingga perlu dianalisis kontribusi pengembangan modal manusia terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi regional. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode panel data pada 114 kabupaten dan kota di Pulau Jawa selama periode 2004-2013. Indikator modal manusia yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rata-rata lama sekolah untuk pendidikan dan angka harapan hidup untuk kesehatan. Hasil estimasi menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan dan kesehatan memiliki kontribusi positif terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi regional. Hal ini mengindikasikan peran penting pendidikan sebagai salah satu sumber utama untuk mencapai pembangunan ekonomi yang lebih baik. Temuan lain dari penelitian ini adalah adanya peran positif dari investasi dan kontribusi yang cenderung negatif dari adanya desentralisasi fiskal. Kata kunci: Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Regional, Modal Manusia, Panel Data, Jawa

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze gross domestic product (GDP) determinants in 7 ASEAN countries from 2010 – 2022.Methods – This study uses panel data analysis that selects random effects as the best model for analysis.Findings – This study concludes that investment, exports, and the Human Development Index (HDI) have a positive effect, and government expenditure positively affects gross domestic product (GDP). Meanwhile, imports have a negative effect on Gross Domestic Product (GDP).Implication – This study implies that there must be policies on investment, exports, and HDI through investment in education and health as well as trade cooperation agreements so that they have implications for improving the quality of the country's economy.Originality – This study contributes to analyze determinants of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), especially in ASEAN using a panel data approach. AbstrakTujuan – Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis determinan produk domestic bruto (PDB) pada 7 Negara di ASEAN selama periode 2010 – 2022. Metode – Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis data panel yang secara spesifik memilih random effect sebagai model terbaik untuk analisis.Temuan – Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa investasi, ekspor, Indeks Pembangunan Manusia (IPM) dan berpengaruh positif dan Pengeluaran Pemerintah berpengaruh positif terhadap Produk Domestik Bruto (PDB). Sementara itu, impor berpengaruh negatif terhadap Produk Domestik Bruto (PDB).Implikasi – Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah harus adanya kebijakan terhadap investasi, ekspor, dan IPM melalui investasi pendidikan dan Kesehatan serta perjanjian kerjasama perdagangan sehingga berimplikasi terhadap peningkatan kualitas perekonomian negara.Orisinalitas – Penelitian ini berkontribusi terhadap analisis determinan Produk Domestik Bruto (PDB) khususnya di ASEAN menggunakan pendekatan data panel.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the influence of economic and social factors on the Human Development Index (HDI) in districts and cities of Central Java Province during the period 2014–2023.Methods – The study employs a panel data regression approach to analyze variables including GRDP per capita, school participation rates at various education levels, the number of people living in poverty, and the number of healthcare facilities.Findings – The results indicate that GRDP per capita and the number of health facilities have a positive and significant impact on HDI, while poverty has a negative and significant effect. School enrollment at the primary and secondary levels shows mixed results, with senior high school enrollment positively contributing to HDI.Implication – The findings highlight the need for regional policymakers to focus on poverty alleviation, economic productivity, and the expansion of healthcare infrastructure to enhance human development outcomes.Originality – This research provides a recent and comprehensive analysis of HDI determinants at the sub-provincial level in Central Java using a panel data approach, incorporating school enrollment by level to capture nuanced educational effects often overlooked in previous studies. AbstrakTujuan – Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh faktor ekonomi dan sosial terhadap Indeks Pembangunan Manusia (IPM) di kabupaten/kota Provinsi Jawa Tengah pada periode 2014–2023.Metode – Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan regresi data panel untuk menganalisis variabel yang meliputi PDRB per kapita, angka partisipasi sekolah pada berbagai jenjang pendidikan, jumlah penduduk miskin, dan jumlah fasilitas kesehatan.Temuan – Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PDRB per kapita dan jumlah fasilitas kesehatan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap IPM, sedangkan tingkat kemiskinan berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan. Pengaruh angka partisipasi sekolah bervariasi; pada jenjang SMA berpengaruh positif signifikan, sedangkan jenjang lainnya menunjukkan hasil yang tidak konsisten. Implikasi – Temuan ini mengindikasikan pentingnya peran kebijakan daerah dalam mengurangi kemiskinan, meningkatkan produktivitas ekonomi, dan memperluas infrastruktur layanan kesehatan untuk mendorong peningkatan pembangunan manusia.Orisinalitas – Penelitian ini menyajikan analisis terkini dan komprehensif mengenai determinan IPM di tingkat kabupaten/kota di Provinsi Jawa Tengah dengan pendekatan data panel, serta memperhatikan pengaruh angka partisipasi sekolah berdasarkan jenjang pendidikan yang sering kali luput dalam kajian sebelumnya.
