Abstract

This study investigated the level of physical facilities adequacy and instructional resources utilization for teaching and learning effectiveness in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes. A quantitative research design was used, with a sample of 700 participants (85 lecturers and 615 students) which was randomly selected across three Federal Universities in South-South, Nigeria. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from TVET lecturers and students. Mean, standard deviation and t-test were used for data analyses. Physical facilities were found to be inadequate for teaching and learning processes in TVET programmes. Also, instructional resources were found to be underutilized during teaching and learning in TVET programmes. One of the recommendations made for the study is that TVET managers should endeavour to collaborate with major stakeholders for the provision of funds that would assist in ensuring adequate provision of physical facilities for effective teaching and learning processes in TVET programmes. As such, this would further help to foster the conducive environment for teaching and learning of TVET courses, which in turn, would help in equipping students with the skills to pursue entrepreneurial careers and lifelong learning upon graduation.

Abstract

The study examined the correlation between work self-efficacy and job performance of business educators in public universities. A correlational design was adopted and data were collected from a randomly selected sample of 142 business educators (12 HODs and 130 lecturers) using a structured psychological scale. Data where analyzed using Pearson correlation matrix and linear regression. Pearson correlation matrix was employed to answer the research question while linear regression was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed a significant but low correlation between work self-efficacy and task performance (r = .263; p = .002). The result also showed a significant but low correlation between work self-efficacy and contextual performance (r = .238; p = .007). The results also showed a significant but low correlation between work self-efficacy and overall job performance (r = .315; p = .000). These findings suggest that if university administrators and managers create or implement a challenging and resourceful work environment, it will help increase and sustain high level of work self-efficacy among business educators in public universities which, in turn, further increase their task performance and contextual performance.

Abstract

The study explored the relationship between work burnout (WB) dimensions (e.g. emotional exhaustion, cynicism and lack of professional accomplishment) and job performance (JP) components (e.g. task and contextual) of vocational education lecturers (VELs) in universities in Nigeria. The target population of the study were 284 VELs from public universities in Nigeria. The study employed a structured questionnaire for data collection. Pearson correlational Metrix and linear regression with a bootstrap bias-correction technique were applied for the analyses of data. The results shows that WB dimensions (e.g. emotional exhaustion, cynicism and lack of professional accomplishment) do not significantly correlate with JP components (e.g. task and contextual) of VELs. The results provided evidence concerning the relationship between WB dimensions and JP components of VELs. However, WB experienced by VELs has affected their JP. In all, caution must be exercised by university administrators in assigning job responsibilities to lecturers.
