Abstract

Scholars have begun to shift their focus from leadership to followership. The results of several studies indicate that followership has several positive impacts. One type of followership that exists is authentic followership. Several scholars have created several authentic followership models that have been published in journals. In this paper, we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of existing authentic followership models. The method used in this paper is by conducting a scoping review to answer the research objectives. Scoping review is a method for synthesizing and categorizing research results based on the literature review that has been carried out. Furthermore, the analysis used in this scoping review is thematic analysis. As a result, each authentic followership model has its own strengths and weaknesses. In addition, based on the perspective of the underlying theory, the three existing authentic followership models can be divided into two perspectives. The two perspectives are state and trait perspectives. This paper will also discuss the criticism of the state and trait perspectives. The practical implication of this paper is that there is a need to develop an authentic followership model based on the results of existing research.

Abstract

Authentic followership is a research topic that is starting to be widely researched in the field of organizational behavior. This research aims to determine the level of authentic followership among members of public organizations in Madura. The method used is descriptive quantitative research. The scale used in this research is the authentic followership scale by Leroy. The participants in this research were 413 state civil servants who worked in various government agencies in Madura. The research results revealed that the majority of respondents (75%) were in the medium category. The remainder were classified as high (14%) and low (11%). These results can be used as a reference for further research discussing authentic followership.

Abstract

Authentic followership has been proven to contribute to increasing the effectiveness of leadership and organizational performance. Authentic followership has four-dimensional structures, namely self-awareness, balanced processing, relational transparency, and internalized moral perspective. Based on previous studies, the only measuring instrument that is comprehensive enough to reveal the construct of authentic followership is the authentic followership scale by Leroy et al. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to adapt the authentic followership scale into the Indonesian language and test its validity. To determine the content and construct validity of the measuring instrument, this study involved 531 participants (M age = 42.31, SD = 9.76; 58% female and 42% male). The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) proved that the four-factor measurement model (16 items) fit the empirical data obtained. This finding indicates that the Indonesian adaptation of the authentic followership scale has internal validity and construct validity as a measuring instrument. This study has limitations related to participants who only involved members of public organizations from East Java. Therefore, further research should involve members of public organizations from various organizations throughout the province. The originality of this study is the only adaptation process of the authentic followership scale in the Indonesian language that has ever existed.

Abstract

Birokrasi yang bersih dan berkomitmen menunjukkan sistem dukungan yang baik dari para pemangku kepentingan, misalnya pemangku kepentingan yang berperan sebagai loyalis asertif. Pemerintah Provinsi Jawa Timur (Pemprov Jatim) bisa menjadi contoh dari hal tersebut. Loyalis yang asertif bisa diartikan sebagai pengikut yang mendukung pemimpinnya tetapi tidak kehilangan sikap kritisnya terhadap kebijakan dan perilaku pemimpin. Pelatihan merupakan hal penting untuk memberdayakan loyalis asertif di pemerintah daerah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas pelatihan untuk memberdayakan pengikut loyalis asertif. Efektivitas pelatihan diukur dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Penelitian ini mengadopsi evaluasi tahap pembelajaran oleh Kirkpatrick dan Kirkpatrick. Metode yang digunakan adalah desain eksperimen kuasi. Penelitian dimulai dengan mengamati partisipan penelitian dan memberikan pretest. Setelah itu, peneliti akan memberikan intervensi kepada partisipan penelitian. Selanjutnya partisipan penelitian diamati kembali dan diberikan posttest. Intervensi yang diberikan berupa pelatihan bagi peserta penelitian. Peserta penelitian adalah ASN (Aparatur Sipil Negara) dengan kualifikasi pejabat struktural dan pejabat pelaksana yang mengelola kepegawaian, jabatan fungsional analis kepegawaian, jabatan fungsional asesor, dan ASN yang berminat di bidang kepemimpinan dan manajemen SDM. Tolok ukur untuk mengetahui efektivitas pelatihan adalah dengan membandingkan hasil pre-test dan post-test peserta pelatihan. Hasil pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan perubahan yang positif. Pada hasil pre-test, persentase butir jawaban benar dari seluruh peserta adalah 44,95%. Sedangkan hasil post-test menunjukkan bahwa persentase butir jawaban benar dari seluruh peserta adalah 62,98%. Hasil ini mencerminkan perubahan positif (18,03%) dalam pengetahuan peserta penelitian tentang pengikut loyal yang asertif. Saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya adalah menindaklanjuti efektivitas pelatihan pada tahap perilaku dan hasil dari perspektif Kirkpatrick dan Kirkpatrick.
