Abstract

This research aims to implement vaccination in order to encourage tourism growth in ASEAN. The relationship between vaccination and tourism growth, especially in ASEAN countries, is very important. This research focuses on Indonesia, Singapore, Malayasia and Vietnam which have reopened their borders to stimulate the tourism sector. This research uses qualitative research methods to look specifically at each country's policies regarding vaccination. The result of this research is that ASEAN governments are slowly easing it to save their tourism industry. At the regional level, the ASEAN Tourism Ministers' Meeting resulted in cooperation in operating the ASEAN Tourism Crisis Communication Team (ATCCT). From this meeting, it is hoped that in the future ASEAN countries will collaborate and have an integrated policy in the tourism sector, especially after the pandemic, considering that ASEAN is very dependent on tourism as one of the main sources of income.

Abstract

The tourism industry's landscape has been heavily impacted by the development of digitalization. This scope has specifically affected how the utilization of technology has somewhat influenced the existence of a digitally driven market, to which those industries must adapt in these new environments. Ever since its implementation through online travel agencies, which has further exacerbated the trend toward entirely new virtual experiences, along with various digital marketing efforts. As such, the advantages of digital tourism resonate in economic development, enhanced branding, and increased resistance against future pandemics such as COVID-19, as shown in the article through several case studies. Countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are slowly striving to expand and rejuvenate their tourism sector through the pathway of digital tourism. This article perceptively showcases how the importance of digitalization is transforming global tourism industries in Southeast Asia. Through digital tourism, a plausible way has been paved for governments to approach new markets and reach new levels of competitiveness, thereby elevating their status to attract travelers. This path is also harnessed by businesses at all kinds of levels, as it inclusively provides possibilities to access the digital world. Therefore, under the adoption of digital tourism strategies, nations can address not only immediate challenges but also position themselves to gradually transition towards sustainable tourism growth in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

There are numerous researches regarding Tourism in the ASEAN region which generally merely observe the progress of tourism in this region based on the number of foreign tourist visits and foreign exchange income received by ASEAN countries that develop outbound tourism. Dissimilar to other research, this research seeks to observe the development of tourism from the perspectives of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) and the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), which are immensely focused on featuring the competition/development of tourism from various aspects. By utilizing TTCI / TTDI, the advantages and disadvantages of several aspects in the development of tourism will be essentially visible. Thus, this research shall examine more deeply on the dynamics of ASEAN tourism, focusing more on countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam and Thailand from several pillars established by the World Economic Forum (WEF) which are issued every two years. This research focuses on the 2017-2022 period as it would be able to answer the ASEAN tourism competition/development index for the five years, as in such five years span the world of international tourism collapsed due to COVID 19 in 2020-2021.Through this research, it was found that the dynamics of ASEAN tourism development during this period was significantly high, meaning that there were ASEAN countries that experienced declines and increases when viewed from the TTCI/TTDI, and there were countries experiencing stable dynamics. The main key to the success of a country in ASEAN in achieving tourism development lies in the government's ability to manage tourism with its stakeholders and is supported by the domestic political stability of each country.

Abstract

ATF, or the ASEAN tourist Forum, was created in 1981 to help Southeast Asia become more cohesive in its tourist industry. Through cooperation between state and non-state actors within ASEAN, the ATF expands the list of actors that contribute to the promotion of ASEAN as a common tourism destination. Nevertheless, it is still to be determined how effectively the ATF achieves this goal, namely, whether it functions as a platform for competition rather than cooperation. The present study utilises a qualitative case study approach to examine the activities, responses, and outcomes of the ATF throughout its existence. The primary emphasis is on the dynamic interplay between cooperation and competitiveness among member states of the ATF, particularly within the framework of ATSP 1 and ATSP 2. The findings show that while the ATF has promoted regional tourism collaboration, competition among member countries sometimes limits deeper integration. The results also show that some countries prioritize domestic tourism over integrated regional destinations due to their domestic conditions. This analysis uses tourism to shed light on Southeast Asian regionalization in the ATF. Access to this information also suggests ways to create more effective, harmonious, and comprehensive policies.
